P.S Did they test drive the car afterwards?

    They who?
If you mean Halfords then the answer is I don't know. I left the car there and came back after about 2 hours. I think they should have.

  • I once picked up a damage-flap like that one from a badly finished speed pillow, which was edged with bricks; one of them had broken and the tyre caught on the exposed sharp edge and caught a rip in the inner sidewall.

If you suspect Halfords have driven it then that's when its prolly happened. Did you have any other work done? I would'nt have let the car out of my sight!

But that was several weeks ago. No other work done on it since. But I think you might be right it could have been there all the time. I just saw it by chance, no idea how long it has been there.

Anything on the paperwork about test drive? Otherwise its prolly been ragged. Unless you have a dash cam or tracker don't think you will have any luck. I would get it to ANOTHER garage and have a replacement tyre. Might need to be an alloy specialist as the wheel looks buckled. Might even need a replacement alloy. Also, worth getting alignment checked with someone.

We don't know until we see the pics, but i suspect its been kerbed ()-:

Having now seen the pics I would agree that that is the most likely cause. :(

But fingers crossed for the OP.

That rim certainly doesn't look right, take a good look at it. I don't think there is any tyre fault there. I agree with others, contact / impact damage.

A lot of mobile alloy refurbers will come out to you, straight the wheel and do the tyre. Worth looking into. Good luck.

The receipt does not say anything about a test drive. I don't have a dash cam or anything like that. If I have to get it replaced myself (and it looks like I will have to) I will take it to my usual garage.

The car is quite old and the wheel does have some previous marks but I checked the tyre there are no marks on the tyre itself.

    I suppose pothole is a possibility :(

I remember every kerb and every pothole i've ever hit in every single car i've owned over the last 15 years.

Surely you'd remember hitting something in the last 100 miles?
