Sat 14/Sun 15 Nov - What small DFW things will you do this weekend?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

  • Good morning everyone :D
So much for the lie in. I've been trying to get back to sleep since half past five. I've given up and been watching the sad news about Paris...
Hope everyone is feeling ok. I have a lot to do this weekend as always, and when I post it on here I feel more inclined to get it done.
    :cheesy: check banking
:cheesy: get ds to football training
:cheesy: get both kids to gymnastics
    :cheesy: housework (disgusting bathroom)
    :cheesy: change cat litter
:cheesy: use my gymnastics time productively
:cheesy: get these 2 bags of clothes deposited somewhere
:cheesy: upload last night's shopping receipt to cos/shopitize/receipt hog
:cheesy: investigate doubling up my Tesco vouchers
:cheesy: go up into the loft to look for pie or flan dishes that I think I have
:cheesy: batch cook for the week ahead
That will do for the moment I think. Have a good day everyone.

    Morning

Thanks for the start CCL. Hope you get a bit of downtime today.

Thank for the kind birthday wishes for DS yesterday. He had a great day.

BB - what a good way of looking at the daily ££ that the HMRC monies will bring thank you.

KayAnnie - thank you I hope I've had some impact on his thinking :)

So today for us began very early. Little lady very unsettled from around 2. Then DS decided he has a cold (I think he does) & was in by 5am. I think I've been awake since 3 for good. Not feeling too bad so far. Coffee is going to feature heavily today.

Had a letter from CB people to say they've increased it by £13 a week for DD. However I do know we will lose some of it at some point as OH earns over the limit but not enough to lose it entirely. Do they write to you seperate about that? I ticked the box to say he was a higher tax payer on the form. Oh well one to watch. In the meantime that covers nappies and a few ££s left over to save hopefully.

Need to write a list of thank you notes for DS. I haven't made him write them before but he's old enough and has good enough hand writing now. So one for his list and mine :)

Recieved a free charity calendar for next year which is super handy as we haven't had a family calendar since our academic wall planner ended in August and we didn't replace it. It has lovely animal pictures for each page.

Foxgloves - Glad you are going to use your energy rebate. You have a good cushion built up in any case. Our bill is £30 higher this month. That is purely a little bit of the heating being on. It isn't now as it has broken down and the engineer can't come till Tuesday. And using the tumble drier every day.
Sadly with a new baby in the house we are using so much more laundry and I can't dry it any other way without heating being on...oh well win some lose some.

    Have a good weekend all.

  • Morning all, early starts here! My dd was up at 6, love the way there is no gentle wake up - just straight into a full blown conversation like I'd been laying there waiting for her to wake :D

    Things today:
    - batch cook curry with leftovers in fridge
    - write up meal plan (didn't do yesterday)
    - Find 3 things to eBay
    - Go and buy dairy free chocolate stocking fillers with £4 voucher from H&B
    - Clean house (bleugh)
    - Run videos to get swagbuck points
    - Take one survey

    Have a great day/weekend!

  • Morning all,

    Thanks for starting CCL

Well I had to come home yesterday afternoon as I was ill at work (the type that involved a bucket by my desk). I'm rarely ill like that so think I must have eaten something dodgy. Been awake since 5am and managed some dry crackers. At least it was a no spend day! I'm a bit concerned I won't be able to claim my extra hours I did at the start of the day so may end up having to take a half day annual leave rather than sick leave (crazy I know). I can't afford to be poorly!

I'm still not feeling 100% but we have to go to Aldi today and I have a couple of things I need to post (one a return and refund from eBay). I also need to pay a cheque in the bank which is going straight in the wedding pot.

We have poochy so I have to be well enough to take her out. I think the fresh air will be good.

Also have housework to do - ironing pile still there!

Paperwork to check and sign for the wedding. We're hiring a routemaster bus for us all to travel to service then back to venue. Also posting back the affidavit for the special licence.

Other than that I think it's going to have to be a quite weekend. We were planning on going to see the Steve Jobs film with our unlimited cards but that depends how dodgy I feel!

Have a great weekend everyone :)

    Morning everyone.

Thanks to ccl for starting us off.

The Paris attacks have left me so saddened. It sounds stupid, but I think it's worse that the band that was playing was one that is one that I know of and like. It just makes you realise that "there but for the grace of God go I". It just hits home that these things happen to people like you and me. And it shouldn't happen to anyone. It never should.

    Today's thoughtful list:
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Scan PC using free antivirus
    • Bought Christmas present for daddy using reserved funds - done
    • Try to minimise energy usage but very unlikely to happen. Saturday is wash day and batch cooking. No chance of the washing going out on the line.
    • Ask OH to take random pieces of glass from his mum's to the shed. Apparently he is going to "make something" with them. The caveat is that they are going on ebay if this does not happen by the end of next summer.
    • Using up stuff out of freezer to make room for Christmas party food
    • Chop and cook some freebie cooking apples to make pie filling for alternatives to mince pies for party
    • Feed the Christmas cakes
    • Bit of housework/pottering: clean small bathroom/check OH's cleaning of big bathroom/put away washing/tidy round/find some decluttering items/wash more jam jars/perhaps some dusting
    • Decluttering:
      • Put a pretty whisky bottle and sleeve in the recycling. I had tried to sell on ebay but people uninterested as the whisky was no longer resident :o;)
      • Little plastic jug for filling the iron (just do it straight from the tap)
      • Dregs of a bottle of febreeze that I know I bought while still with my ex. I have been with my OH for 9 years...
      • Random penny into the piggy bank
      • Random handful of screws into the toolbox
      • Broken jack plug - ask OH whether it can be fixed but suspect not
    • OH has a paid gig tonight
    • Crochet. Had to undo two lines last night to to a small mistake. At least I spotted it fairly soon.
I might add some more later. Am starving hungry now so need more coffee and brekkie.

    Have a good one all.

  • Morning everyone

I dont have any little people to get me up but woke at 7am anyway! Everyone else is still in bed. I am watching the dreadful news from Paris, very scary.

I have been a bit awol this week. We are making more plans for the house, new bathroom and some more windows replaced, hopefully before Christmas. This comes out of a little inheritance that we were given specifically to do the house but we dont have a huge amount of money left so have to be careful.

We may go shopping for exciting things like tile adhesive and grout today but to get the best prices we need to go to the big shops 25 miles away. Just need to make sure we dont buy anything unnecessary. Oh and I might go to Al@i while we are there, I dont get to go very often! Must make a list.

Hope no-one is badly affected by this terrible weather. Quite a few flood warnings here.

Have a good Saturday everyone x
