OLIVER or anyone else who is already working at home for teletech. How are you finding it? Do you deal with many difficult people and feel tired at the end of the evening? How are you finding the job?

Your input will be greatly appreciated on this topic :D

NOW I HAVE CHANGED THE SETUP: I have now unplugged everything on the groud floor and only plugged in an extnsion lead into the telephone point. The extension lead goes staright upstairs in which I have plugged in the telephone and a filter. I then also took my netgear router upstairs and plugged it in and put an ethernet wire into it and also my pc. It still failed teh technical test.

If i now get my workbooth cd will it fail the test. Otherwise my next option is to plug in the bt hub and try to connect via that. OR install a telephone line upstairs in the office. Can someone please help me/advise me what I could be doing wrong.

    Thanks!
If you are on ethernet now the workbooth test will run and you should pass it. Personally I would say you would be better off keeping your tel line run as short as possible, plug the router and filter into the main socket then run a long ethernet cable up to the office for when you want to be on ethernet for "work". Putting extensions on can introduce noise which can impact the speed/ stability of the connection on the line.
To the second post, yes some days can be a bit draining but if you handle each call on its merits, use your support options as much as needed and make sure you follow procedure it's not too bad.

    Help Guys!!

'You must have a local router between you and the internet to run the Workbooth Software. It seems that your IP Address is a direct connection to the internet. Either disable this connection, or place a router between it and the Internet'

    Ok so here's my questions:

Why is it telling me i need one if i already have a Virgin BB Cable Modem?

    What is a router?

Where can i get one and whats the cheapest price i expect to pay? (cheaper the better)

it says i can disable it How do you disable it and will it affect my internet connection etc lol

I'm on Virgin too-and had exactly the same issue when I tried to connect the first time. Don't disconnect the connection-put a wireless router in-line and set it up. Prices vary but new from 19.99-£35 -depending on where you go-Maplins are good and may even be less than twenty quid.

Yeah I am finding it great, been there since Sept now

You might get the odd call from a frustrated customer
but I see these as a chalenge to get their problems
sorted, due to the fact there calling "you" for help they
tend to be ok and cooperative, and from my experience abusive
    calls are very rare

I don't find the job stressful no and once its the end of your
shift you simply log off and go watch TV etc.
  • has anyone else heard about a bonus for referring people?
the "singing" trainer tolds us that if someone comes into the company, and they say your name, you get 75 pounds?!

    if so, your in, oli!

been doing the job for a while, very tiring, especially trying to help those that dont know what theire doing!!

Specaspeal, PaulK and Oliver 27 - many thanks for your suggestions. I think it must be my ethernet card is not supported - the one that I have is not listed so will have to buy one. I have contacted Lice call three times now over this and they keep tellling me to email (ommitted).... I have emailed them 5 times over the last two days and every email is returned as failed - even though I know the email address is correct- live call say that maybe the in box is full and keep trying??? Ah well I think I will just buy a new ethernet card for my laptop

Auddel, have you actually said what error you get when trying
    to run the test?

And can you just confirm your now connected with the ethernet
cable direct to the router and you have also turned the wireless
connection off on the laptop, to prove you can browse the net ok over
the ethernet cable just incase its still using the wireless connection.

I've not been with the company as long as the "oldtimers" Oliver and Paul -just about three months.
As a job it suits me down to the ground. I'm certainly not a techie and don't have a background in IT although have been on the net for years and used PCs as part of my work so I've learned a lot since I've started but still find my customer service skills are equally useful as it's all about communication and have been complimented by customers for explaining their issue and not making them feel intimidated as some of them DO find the internet quite daunting :)
Difficult customers ? Fewer than I expected to be honest and as Oliver says we're there to help. I quite like the challenge of a customer who starts off angry and by the end of the call is happy :)
My shifts average 4 hours but quite often I'll accept overtime and work longer and no I don't feel tired or drained when I finish-and knowing there is no commute but I can be out of "the office" and home doing "my stuff" within seconds is great. The staff canteen and office coffee is the best of any job I've ever had too ;) I honestly work with a really nice bunch of people-no job is perfect but I don't see me wanting to leave in the forseeable future.
