Hi everyone - I have problems again- goodness this must be the hardest job I have ever applied for lol. I am starting training on 14th April and I am trying to run the workbooth cd. I keep getting the error message at the end 'DCHP-unable to obtain IP address'. I am definateley connected by ethernet cable and I also turned of my windows firewall. I did contact live call and they suggested i repair my ip address which i did, but I still get the same error message - any suggestionsAuddel0

it might be the router youre connecting with, there is a technical support number somewhere, i cant remember it, but one of the others might be able to prvt mesage you it...0 -
thanks for your suggestion. This is going to sound really stupid to everyone - but I have a BT home hub -is that my router and would I need a separate modem ( I went on workbooth networking troubleshooting and their router seems to be connected to a modem which is then connected to a computer) but I thought my modem is in my laptop - ok all you techies - stop laughing but I am really fed up today as I have spent 4 hours trying to get this to workAuddel0

Home hub acts as the router I believe, does your tel line plug into the hub and the hub in to the pc LAN port (normally has a symbol of 3 squares connected by lines)? If so then the hub is definitely your router.

The hub is the wireless router unit.0 -
Hi Auddel - i too have BT home hub and my puter went through the workbooth cd ok so i dot think your hub is the problem. However i did find before that my ethernet card was not supported so had to get that changed and after that it was fine. to see if your card is supported go onto workbooth webpage - then f&q and read down the page. It tells you how to check what card you have and has a list of supported ones. hope that helps. Also i know it sounds silly but i had ip address error last week. I got so fed up and in my frustration just shut down the pc and rebooted it and it worked so i would try rebooting first then if that fails go to the f&q page on workbooth site. let us know how you get on.0

If you are on ADSL and get errors where you get kicked out or get IP errors it could be that your BB connection is dropping momentarily, when it flicks back into life you get a new IP address for the router. At this point workbooth loses track of you as you will have logged in on an IP address which and now are asking for data from another.
Unless your network card is not suitable you should have no issues at all using the home hub or most routers, biggest hurdle is stability on the BB connection, any instability can lead to issues, my BB dropped part way through a shift and I had a lot of problems logging back in as the server remembers your IP for a period and this means you have to let it drop your IP/ login from the server before you will be able to get back in again.0 -
I tried to run the technical assessment on my pc but it failed because of my wireless connection.
THIS IS THE CURRENT SETUP OF MY NET: I am a BT broadband customer and have a hub but I havent connected it as yet because I am using the netgear router (so decided to leave it on). My office is on the 2nd floor and my telephone point on the ground floor so the distance is quite a bit between the telephone point and my PC. I have the wireless netgear router plugged into my telephone point on the ground floor + a telephone and an extension lead. The extension lead goes upstairs to my office and then I have a filter plugged into it and a 2nd telephone. I connect to the net wireless from upstairs.
NOW I HAVE CHANGED THE SETUP: I have now unplugged everything on the groud floor and only plugged in an extnsion lead into the telephone point. The extension lead goes staright upstairs in which I have plugged in the telephone and a filter. I then also took my netgear router upstairs and plugged it in and put an ethernet wire into it and also my pc. It still failed teh technical test.
If i now get my workbooth cd will it fail the test. Otherwise my next option is to plug in the bt hub and try to connect via that. OR install a telephone line upstairs in the office. Can someone please help me/advise me what I could be doing wrong.
Thanks!0 -
Help Guys!!
I've done all the assessments and had my interview tonight with 'ellen' who said i'd be put forward for training shifts starting at the end of the month but i had previously thought my computer was fine as i'd had no email to say otherwise yet ellen said to re run their technical assessment again as they'd been having problems with it - in running their software checks it says:
'You must have a local router between you and the internet to run the Workbooth Software. It seems that your IP Address is a direct connection to the internet. Either disable this connection, or place a router between it and the Internet'
Ok so here's my questions:
Why is it telling me i need one if i already have a Virgin BB Cable Modem?
What is a router?
Where can i get one and whats the cheapest price i expect to pay? (cheaper the better)
it says i can disable it How do you disable it and will it affect my internet connection etc lol0 -
