MSE News: Four million TalkTalk customers to get free upgrade

Not a problem for me as I had already renewed last week on an 18 month contract with the 'only for new customers' Black Friday deal which they agreed to. if I had been able to see on my account then that I wouldn't be offered the anytime upgrade I would have deleted it then, and reapplied it now. Silly me for trusting them to be fair and honest.0

Just as an opinion as everything on here is negative in the extreme - TT are not perfect but I know lots of people on BT, Virgin etc who also have issues. Lots of companies have had Data hacks but have not been as upfront as TT.
Easy to be negative - but lots of alternatives exist.....
Talk Talk create and exacerbate the negativity themselves.
I'm quite happy with the service I've had over the time I've been with them which will be going on for some 10 years now. Problems have been sorted quickly by the OCEs on the forum and the online chat. I had the misfortune to ring the overseas CS once - never again, useless is being generous. But, overall, I've had good service at a very reasonable price.
What irks people is the way they handle situations like the free upgrade. Their PR is appalling. Dido Harding has disappeared now from the frontline and the OCEs have obviously been instructed to ignore forum posts on the subject hoping it will all go away eventually.
Customers have long memories and will vote with their feet regardless of whether they may be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.0 -
Interesting - I checked mine this morning and I don't have the option yet (as above I got TT to take the anytime calls boost off yesterday).
I couldn't find how to check what boosts I've got, have they taken this off as part of their "slimmed down" online site?
As far as I'm aware, you can only add/remove/check on your boosts via phone at the moment.
My sister called to cancel her anytime calls boost from work today and has just logged in using her (non TT) work internet and was able to select the calls boost, just as we did yesterday for our mother. Perhaps we've just been lucky, but it's worked out well for us.0 -

I've just tried and it says I can only login from a TT internet connection.0 -
They have sent an email to say that the 'free' period is 12 months. After that it becomes chargeable. Also any usage over the 'free' allowance is chargeable.
Congratulations on discovering yet another instance where TalkTalk misled MSE Paloma. From the MSE article:Will I automatically be charged for the upgrades after the free period ends?
TalkTalk says there's no ongoing charge associated with any of the upgrade options above. So when the free TV, mobile Sim or calls package ends, it'll be automatically removed from your account and you won't be charged in future.0 -

If anyone thinks of calling 0800 230 0403 and selecting option 1 for the free upgrade, your call will be held in a queue for upwards of an hour and then terminated. Best to do this from a UK (non-TalkTalk) mobile phone so they have to pay for the cost of making you wait.
Yet if you call the sales department, you will not wait more than a few seconds. Curious huh? :whistle:0 -
New information from TalkTalk - customers who currently pay for the UK & mobile calls boost are not eligible to have it free for 12 months.
Yet customers who don't have the boost are eligible to have the boost free for 12 months.
So it transpires TalkTalk have misled MSE about this too - here's what the article says:- Unlimited UK landline and mobile calls – open to broadband/home phone customers
For those who already have a TalkTalk landline and broadband, it's offering calls to mobiles and 01, 02 and 03 numbers (excludes 084/087/09 as well as 118 numbers) free for 12 months.
While it's 'unlimited', TalkTalk does operate a 'fair use policy' of 1,800 minutes per month (30 hours). Calls are free for the first 60 minutes only, so if you pick this option, make sure you hang-up and redial within the first 60 minutes or you'll be charged the standard rate of 11.5p/minute for landlines and mobiles. Some non-inclusive calls may be subject to a connection charge of 17p too.
This calls package normally costs £7.50/month.

These are the only two options i am being offered. I dont want either of those, i want the anytime free calls, worth £7.50 per month. Talktalk gave me three months worth of anytime calls for free when they took away my free calls months back.
I really feel cheated by this company. My details WERE HACKED form talktalk. This is such a shambolic arrangement. Customers should be able to choose any of the four options, "pre-selected ones"
I am once again disappointed with this company
I had a similar problem but after picking up info on this site and possibly MSE raising concerns I called them this morning removed my free anytime opening offer boost which ends in March - I have now just got home and I now have the free upgrade option available for calls for 12 months - THANKS TO THOSE THAT HELPED ME - saved me 9 x £7.50 :-)0 -
