Wow.
You claim to have had '2 major careers' (whatever that means!) and you claim to know more than anyone else on the subject, and that is the best you can come up with?!
What you have posted is nothing more than your opinions, a bunch of hyperbole, and a link that says the OU is actually OK!!!!
I know that and I didn't dispute it. I was saying PROVE that a degree done at college is worth less than an OU degree (or one done at another uni) and all you have done is post YOUR views, and a link promoting the OU.
So it seems you don't know anymore about this subject than me, or anyone else after all!!!
Thought as much.
Oh and as I said, a degree from college IS just as valid as one from anywhere else. It's pretty obvious, especially when it's the same flippin' degree!
Here's a link that says as much. I am sure there are more. I just can't be bothered to find anything else... In addition, I can't be bothered to debate anymore. I don't think I need to say anything else! I'll just leave you and Person-One to tie yourself up in knots.

Have a good evening!
No it's not just you my love.
I have to come off here because I am struggling to not pee myself laughing! :rotfl:
...
"Major careers " was an odd way of putting it, I agree. I meant I'd spent a length of time doing them rather than some of the more short term things I've done.:o
Considering that P1 and I are frequently at daggers drawn, the idea of either of either of us brown nosing each other (or anybody else, considering how bloody minded we both are) is truly ridiculous. In fact, almost as ridicuous as your "all degrees colleges and universities are equal philosophy.
I think you're probably best to run off now and let the grown ups carry on having a sensible discussion - surely it's almost your bedtime anyway?0 -
When my DD was younger I moved to be near her school and am still there. Her friends are close by, goes to 6th form at a college nearby now and is looking at doing a degree nearby too.
Hubby and I discussed moving and I brought up DD has to be considered and I couldn't uproute her. He said she would just have to move with us.
I should add, we aren't actually moving yet, we were just talking, but wondered if I'm in the minority, should DD just suck it up and move regardless?
I'll reply with my opinion, then go read everyone else's posts.
With an only child (is that your position OP?) I think your DD's feelings are as important as yours and your partners with regard to a move away from the area, at least until she has gone to university. At that time she has options to stay local to where she is now, she can stay on campus etc.0 -
"We're been to the college and the degree is the same as at uni"
No it isn't. Fact.
And as the fees are paid as loans, the size of the fee is entirely irrelevant to your income.
Another round of "parents who don't understand the university finance system guessing instead of getting facts and limiting their children's futures to no good purpose".0 -

Ok, from what I understood it was the same degree. I'm going off what I was told, I'll look into it.
I don't understand your comment sorry, about limiting her future?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

Give evidence for this 'FACT' please.......
Or are you someone else who is spouting opinions and hyperbole with not a shred of evidence to back it up?You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I wouldn't pay too much attention 74jax. People are giving opinions, nothing more.
A degree is a degree is a degree. They have to run to the same standards. To say a college degree is not worthy is laughable and insulting and wholly inaccurate. You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Sorry I disagree
A university with a reputation for research is going to attract a far higher calibre of lecturers than the local tech that has decided to offer degree courses.
Employers make the distinction too. A candidate from a well thought of university versus a candidate from a local college -both with say a 2:1 will not be regarded as equal candidates.
It may not seem fair - but that's the reality.
As for the OU - I did a couple of years with the OU before transferring to a (well thought of) Uni. The standard and breadth of teaching at the OU I found to be vastly superiorI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

No need to apologise to me.
You're entitled to your OPINION just as anyone else is.
And like the others on here, it is just that: an OPINION.
I have still yet to see proof that a college degree is not as good as an OU one. (Or one from another university...) I have put a link to say a college degree IS as good, but nobody seems to be putting anything to back up everything they are saying about a college degree NOT being as good. All I am seeing is a small handful of posters spouting OPINIONS with nothing to back it up.
I am not going to keep asking. You are obviously all unable to provide proof. I have better things to do than waste my time on here debating with people who keep presenting their OPINIONS as 'facts.'
Goodnight. :wave:You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
The mere fact that university league tables exists should prove to you that all universities are not equal. Here are the rankings - note in particular the column labelled "graduate prospects":I have still yet to see proof that a college degree is not as good as an OU one. A degree from a university at the top of the league table will be more highly regarded by employers than the "same" degree with the "same" classification from a university at the bottom of the table.
This is partly because the top universities are harder to get into, partly because the teaching is better, and partly because the name carries weight (we've all heard of Cambridge Uni, but not so many will have heard of the local poly).
Why is this so hard to understand?0 -

Did you even read the thread properly before posting this?
What you are going about is NOTHING to do with what I am on about.
Of course I know that certain universities hold more weight than others. But this is about people CLAIMING that a degree from a college is in no way as good as a university degree.
Please read the thread and peoples posts thoroughly before commenting. It's a very bad idea to comment without doing so.
WHY is this so hard to understand?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is literally like pulling teeth! You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0
