This has been mentioned in the big Aldi & Lidl discussion but it's worth it's own thread in case anyone's interested and didn't spot it in there.
It's Dispatches, on Channel 4, 8pm Monday.
Enjoy dissecting the programme

Thank you Andrea for the reminder, booked.
When they first came to UK,(along with Lidl ) it was said they worked on a 2% profit margin, as against 20% for the bigger supermarkets.
Also less of a range so less to stock, less money laid out.
Looking forward to the programme.0 -
Can't help thinking there is some gross underhand movement from the big three to try and dish any dirt they can find on this company. Yes efficiency is important, but staff are well paid, (most) products seem to be of decent quality. You cannot compare to Waitrose or Sainsbury's finest, or even their normal produce, as those supermarkets charge almost double if not three times the amount for the same kind of product...Will be in interesting watch!0

With Aldi being a private company, not under pressure from shareholders.

A lot is also down to personal taste - and done be fooled that the top end is healthier, that can be higher sugar / fat / salt content than the basics brand.
Read the ingredients, taste the product and make your own minds up. If you like it and it fits within your budget who cares what it's branded as?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Terrible programme, pure witch hunt against the discounter.
I presume the producer happy to pay 25-40% more for their products at one of the fancier supermarkets.

Witch Hunt indeed. More so at the fact that despatches is a channel 4 programme, and Mark Price, one of the most successful executives in retailing, is quitting as the managing director of Waitrose as he is eyeing the job as chairman of Channel 4, where he is already deputy chairman!! ....join...the....dots......0

I thought an interesting programme. Previously perplexed how they didn't have a reduced area for dated items, answer it seems is that customers can't read the product's date code (unlike other retailers). Hence, the answer being that it is left for days after, sometimes longer.
Noticeable too how blas!, 'public relations speak the company relations responses were - especially two faced regarding speed at the till.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
Things of interest I learned watching this?
Nothing I didn`t know or guess at.
Similar to a few other retailers in many ways.0 -

But yes, it's no secret and I think an obvious conflict of interest to his application. He was really sucking up to the presenter and went out of his way to be on the public's side.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
