British Gas Collective Fix December 2016

• British Gas has accepted my electricity from edf but not the gas, due to some error (not mine!) with our postcode on the Xoserve data base. Frustratingly they did not inform me that this had occurred, more so because when I checked with Xoserve directly our postcode is correct. Now BG tell me that the collective switch has to be "reapplied for" if I wish gas to be transferred too as it is not possible for them to re activate the switch, though the offer ended 2 weeks ago! So now stuck with 2 suppliers. Will be cancelling the BG account as per the cooling off terms. As this has taken over 4 hours of my life so far in research and telephone calls it is little wonder that so many can not face the hassle of switching.

I've heard nothing from BG since signing up for the switch on the final day. Is that normal?

Just a warning to check your figures BEFORE you switch.
I rushed into switching after receiving an email from the CEC telling me that the "Hidden British Gas tariff with £200 savings for most" was expiring at midnight that day.
I thought I would check the actual savings during the cooling off period to make sure the switch was right for me. After looking into the figures - I was originally on BG Discount Fix July 2016 - I found I would be worse off on the Collective Fix December 2016 tariff. So I sent an email to cooling-off@contactus.britishgas.co.uk asking for my switch to be cancelled. The first reply I got said I was on the best tariff and so would not cancel. When I emailed back to say my old tariff was better than the new one, so could they just revert me to my old one, the reply was that that was not possible and I would be put on BG Standard tariff - nearly twice as much as I had been paying!
Needless to say I am now looking to switch supplier!:(

What were your figures? I've just looked up your tariff, it could vary depending on the area but for me (Leeds area) the standing charge was the same for both, gas was 2.67p v 2.75p and electricity was 8.25p v 8.75p with the Collective Fix December 2016 being the cheaper one in both cases.

Ugh, knew it would be too good to be true.

Gas seemed to have switched over ok - got confirmation email and tariff showed as changed in my online account.

Logged in this morning and I have some random statement from September appearing with a bizarre credit balance (?!) - and my tariff showing BACK TO MY OLD ONE!!!

Electricity still not switched over - still showing as old tariff.

Fed up now!

Hi Lungboy

Oh dear, that doesn't sound right, British Gas should have been in touch with you by now. I'd suggest making a formal complaint to British Gas about the lack of contact - its complaints handling team should be able to look into this for you and work out why you've not had any contact and give you an update on the status of the switch.

Hopefully it'll be able to sort this out for you.

Hi Hieveryone

Have you spoken to British Gas about this issue? If not I'd suggest making a formal complaint about the handling of your switch to it.

The tariff was only available for dual fuel applications, so it'll definitely have both parts, however we've heard a few of our users reporting similar issues due to the manual processes which British Gas use.

British Gas' management team have now put in place some extra escalation routes for its call agents to follow, so it should be able to get this fixed for you quickly over the phone (although we're still hearing of agents providing incorrect information).

If you speak to British Gas it should sort this out for you - and if the agent fails to help do follow the complaints process.
• The BG gas switch from EON collective switch was very smooth. I have been refunded by EON now. Not one phone call to anyone this time. 2 emails and 2 automated calls feom BG to enter meter readings and all is done. The manual work involved was in the beginning where I had to compare unit prices and actually switch. Well done to EON, BG and CEC.

At the moment I'm too scared to talk to them - as I may either: a - get arrested for swearing at some poor assistant down the phone or b - go into labour early due to the stress of it all :rotfl::rotfl:

I went through a whole nightmare when I first moved into this house, I should have known better than to try and switch. The thought of speaking to them and getting passed from one non sensical 'advisor' to another fills me with dread.

I went down the formal complaints route previously and it did hee-haw except bung up my letterbox with constant 'we are still looking into your complaint' etc etc...

Argh, nothing is ever simple :rotfl:

What an actual carry-on!!!

Called British Gas today and the extent of the advisors 'help' was that I would have to contact Money Saving Expert to resolve as it is them offering the tariff and if it hasn't changed over I would have to ask them why. Very bemusing on how the advisor thought I was going to be able to contact MSE or Cheap Energy Club for what is basically an 'advert' offering a companies products - he couldn't seem to get his head around this.

Anyway, after speaking to his 'supervisor' a couple of times, he has apparently sent the account to the 'fixers' (is it just me or does that sound dodgy too?!) - and I should hear within the next 5 days. Sigh. The sooner I can leave British Gas the better.
