Hi. I signed up for the switch to BG for both electricity and gas. I was previously with BG for gas, and EDF for electricity. I signed up for the switch on 1/12/15.

I have spoken to British Gas today and they confirmed I am on the new tariff for the gas but have no request for the electricity switch. They have checked the national database and no switch is forthcoming, and thus I am still with EDF.

Any ideas on what I should do next? On holiday for a week from tomorrow.

Hi Ultracheapskate, thanks for the post. It sounds like becauseyour gas was already with us we were able to get the Collective Switch tariffapplied straight away. However, as MSE Dan already confirmed, it takes a fewweeks to transfer energy suppliers. This transfer doesn’t show on the NationalDatabase immediately. I suspect your elec is just in the process of transferringover to us & this will start up around 21st of Dec on theCollective Switch tariff. However, to double check, pls fire over a quick emailto me at talktous@britishgas.co.uk.Pls include “FAO Jamie RE MSE Forums” in the subject field so I can pick thisup. Pls also include your MSE user name in the email body so I can link yourcontacts. Cheers, Jamie.

• Still no word from BG technical support, how long does it take? Still no usage history etc, when all I did was change tariff why has it been lost? Very frustrating. Have emailed twice but standard fob off response...

Will be watching for any advice re: this, as my gas shows up as switched, but not my electricity. Nothing is ever simple!

Hi hieveryone, if both your gas & electricity are supplied by us then it’s likely we’re just in the process of getting the tariff applied to the electricity account.
However, if your electricity hasn’t previously been supplied by us, we’ll need to get this transfer over & this takes a few weeks. Cheers, Jamie.

I heard British Gas have changed requirements for the Warm Home Discount.

Myself and partner claim Income Based JSA, Housing Benefit & Council Tax. We are both under 26, unemployed and have no children, no disabilities, no medical conditions.

Are we entitled to claim? If so, when is the shut of date, and when is the £140 discount paid?

Hi Ykay, I can see another user has already given you a reply over here & all the info given looks right to me. However, if you want me to look into anything further for you pls email me directly at talktous@britishgas.co.uk. Please include FAO Jamie in the email subject as well as you MSE username so I can link your contact. Cheers, Jamie.

Hi BlueIsTheColour, really sorry this isn’t showing. We wanted to offer customers a new cheaper tariff as soon as possible however getting this pushed through quickly has meant that parts of the website have yet been updated to support it. Our technical team are still working on this, but as yet, we’ve no timescales as to when this will be viewable. Please bear with us and apologies again for the delay. Cheers, Jamie.

Be careful when switching to BG, as I found out. The kWh may be slightly cheaper, but BG's standing charge is very high compared to other utility companies. This wipes out any savings, even with the £30 switch. I'm better off with my old provider.

You have to decide whether it works out cheaper to have a higher standing charge and cheaper unit charge, or a lower standing charge and a higher unit charge.

Hi Wilfred3, it’s certainly always worth checking your annual consumption when getting a new quote. Our Standard Tariff standing charge is 26p per day for gas & 26p per day for elec. Sorry there were no savings to be made with us this time. Thanks Jamie.

Just switched mine as I had changed over to BG Standard at the end of November. I got an email confirming the Electricity had switched within 2 days and a letter confirming the same for the Gas (I've no idea why it was an email for one and a letter for the other) about 3 days later. All done within 5 days and I'm saving £200 a year. I might be moving within the year so I'd have to pay the exit fees, but I'll save that over the winter anyway.

Hi alb1, sounds like a great saving you’ve made on the Collective Switch tariff, afraid I’m not too sure why you got one email & one letter confirmation.
However, when you do eventually move home there won’t be any exit fees payable, this is only if you transfer to another energy supplier before 2nd December 2016.
Cheers, Jamie.

I have switched from Sainsbury's to BG. My direct debit amount has changed, I've been refunded the credit on my Sainsbury's account without having to nudge anyone and my BG online account didn't require me to re-register. If I get the CEC cashback pronto, then this will be the smoothest switch ever.

Hi luckwudaveit, really pleased to hear your switch over went so smoothly. The £30 cash back offer will be paid back directly to your bank account & this should be after 3 months. However, this is paid directly from the guys at MSE so slightly out of BGs hands I’m afraid. Thanks, Jamie.

I have had the same problem as some have here with my Gas being switched to the new tariff but not the Electricity. I contacted Matt by email a few weeks ago and he replied promptly and said that it should be resolved by end of November. It wasn't so I emailed him again 2 days ago and haven't received a reply.

This is becoming a farce now especially as I am already a British Gas customer so it shouldn't be too hard to just switch me to a new tariff!

Hi Pejazzle, sorry to hear of the delay in getting the tariff applied. We’ll get back to your email directly. You can also view our full complaints handling process at: http://www.britishgas.co.uk/help-and-advice/contactus-personal-details/complaints/gas-electricity.html ^Jamie.
