I'm another who drinks coffee black - it's my go to at home during the day if I feel I'm drinking too much tea (and thus too much milk!). It means I can have a hot drink without using my HEA. I knew there was a lot of calories in those syrupy coffees but didn't realise they were so high!!!

Welcome to all the losers & hugs to those who need them.

Well done to Horsekaz and Orlao on being our joint SOTW.

After yesterday I know why I don't usually do Red days - I felt much hungrier than usual and ended up picking at the ham in the fridge. Also ate nearly half a melon.

    Back to EE today:

B - beans & scrambled eggs on toast; melon
L - HM spicy beanburger, fried up potatoes; mixed veg
    D - HM meatballs, pasta & ratatouille

HEA - milk in tea throughout the day
    HEB - bread

No idea on syns at the moment.

Good Morning everyone, even though I haven't posted much I am taking in all the comments and thoughts. This weeks weigh in saw a small loss of -1 1/4lbs.

Just wondered whether people had opinions on the correlation between people's age and their ability to lose weight. Having been a yo-yo dieter I do believe that it was a lot easier to lose then it is now in my mid-forties. I am experiencing changes, but how much of an impact does this have? Maybe it is down to the fact that I now cater for a family, and I can't just please myself?

I am waiting for a shiny new gym to open in my neighbourhood, and I think that when I get my bathers on and start swimming again this will really help. In the meantime, I'm finding things hard going despite sticking to the plan with a mean of 7 syns on a daily basis.

    Thanks for the support x

 I've just seen the link for the festive coffees!!!!
I've had 2 small Amaretto Latte's from Nero's in the space of 24 hrs, they were both bought for me and even though I asked for skinny milk and less syrup I've probably consumed 2 weeks worth of syns in one day!!!! My usual black Americano with a splash of skinny for me from now on...

Rebster, I'd add some beans, or bbq beans. Beans always makes anything better I think!

The massive calories from the big ones come from the sheer volume of them more than anything else. They have at least two day's worth of milk allowance before you even start on the syrups and creams!

But a small syrup latte isn't that bad - usually about 8 (give or take depending on milk choice and amount of syrup) syns if you're not claiming any HEA allowance for the milk. Most of that is actually from the milk, the syrups aren't that high in calories. 1 syn per pump. And sugar free syrups are free - you could try hazelnut instead of amaretto next time, it's usually available in SF.

I have a small syrup latte regularly and it's never affected my losses. Used to be coffee shop, now homemade since I got a machine last Christmas. :D

    Today is EE...
    Breakfast: Greek yoghurt and fruit
Lunch - Avocado on toasted sourdough (HEB) with poached eggs and tomatoes
Dinner - Pulled pork (homemade, free) with mashed potatoes and veggies

HEA - It was going to be coffee but didn't feel like it today. So cheese at some point as a snack.
Syns - Probably mostly on the avocado! But really fancy it today, so will be worth it. Not sure how much I'm going to use yet, which is why I don't have a count here.

Morning everyone! So far, so good. No blips yesterday and aiming to do good again today. Already feeling more positive.

Day 2 is looking like this for me meal wise

Breakfast - HEB 30g Rude Health Honey Oats (Gluten Free Cereal as I am a Coeliac), HEA 400ml Unsweetened Soya Milk

Lunch - HM Tomato, Lentil and Spinach Soup (syn free) and 2 left over syn free mini quiches. A piece of fruit.

Afternoon Snack: Banana and Soy Latte with leftover HEA milk.

Dinner: Syn Free Chilli Bacon Pasta Bake (homemade, also contains onion, tomato, courgettes and peppers), salad and an apple strudel Mullerlight.

Syns....to be decided! Possibly a Cookie (4.5 syns) with a cup of tea before bed.

Body Magic: 40 mins hula hopping.

All this coffee talk....I'm sure Starbucks, Costa and McDonalds Coffees are responsible for at least 7lbs of the weight I gained. I LOVE coffee. I generally always have a tall or primo and usually ask for skinny or, more recently Soy (which isn't sugar free unlike the one I buy). My weakness however is a good mocha. No cream but sometimes peppermint syrup if I'm at Starbucks. I also like the Pumpkin Spice Lattes and was having a couple a week last month. I used to ask for less pumps of syrup as I would find them too sweet. I know I have to break the addiction (recently I was having a speciality coffee everyday), I just find it hard to resist the smell.
  • Well today I am FINALLY starting to feel a little better! Happy days!

Trying to get my head back into it.

Breakfast: 1 hi-fi bar and a satsuma (will have another HEB later)

Lunch: Pork medallions, sw chips and peas

Tea: Cheese omelette (HEA) beetroot and pickled onions

Syns: As little as possible! ;)

Well done to the SOTW.... And some good losses coming in too so well done to you all!

    CP xx

Thanks greentiger :D so glad to hear your friend is making a good recovery - will it now be easier to visit them too?
My tendency is to put chilli and garlic salt on everything but that's not to everyone's taste!

We have this on near enough everything :rotfl: we have a grinder with them both in, it's lovely on a pasta bake

Re the coffee.. I know they're pointing out the fat and sugar levels but imagine the caffeine levels in them  insomnia...

Arkers, not sure if it's age related but the few times I've tried SW I've struggled more than I did in my 20's. I think I was a lot more focussed then though..

We have chicken fillets out for tea again so not sure what to do with it.. anyone got any good ideas? :p

Good to have a loss arkers.:T
I think there are lots of variables at different ages. My first thought was to answer from a physical point of view and I think it might be a little bit harder as you get older but all this talk of middle age spread being inevitable is nonsense as far as I'm concerned. You've hit on catering for a family. It must be really hard if you have to buy in lots of snacks and other synful things. In my own case, it was a tiny bit getting older but I mainly put on weight through a stressful more sedentary job so less exercise, more missed meals and grabbing snacks and then rewarding myself with wine when I got in. Then some people have got more will power than others. I don't think it's easy for anyone.:( But that's what this thread is for, to help!!:D

Why are you only having 7 syns a day arkers ? Are you saving them?

Good to hear that you're starting to feel better CP and all still on track for you missindependent.

    My EE menu for today:
B: NAS Grapefruit, 2 fried eggs, HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks
L: cold lamb and LO fried veg
D: gammon, SW chips, mushrooms, tomatoes, mixed greens (asparagus, sugar snaps, peas)
Syns: squirt of HP sauce, maybe a little chocolate
