A40 London New Average Speed Cameras?

Hi all,

Just have a few concerns. Last night, I was driving back from a gig with equipment in my car gone 1am, so fairly empty roads. However, without me realising, there have been new average speed cameras on the A40/Westway (the limit is 40mph, but is like a 50mph road) and, of course, I was speeding between 50-60mph. And this also happened on Friday but I am not sure if they have cameras going westwards.

I'm quite sure I'll get a speeding ticket through because of the new ASC's and it might be two fines, and I've had my license just under two years (18th November!). Anyway, as it's quite likely I'll get the fines, what's the possibility of taking the speed awareness course? What's the likelihood of pleading with the courts because of my job (working in a school, and I'll be taking equipment to work at times so need my car, and my band/gig stuff)? These are genuine jobs so would they be sympathetic? And being so close to the two year date?!

Sorry for the long description and any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

  • If the speed limit hasn't changed its one offence unless you're talking you were done both ways. Being close to the two year limit won't make a difference.
  • The jobs? Any leniency with that?

No, you can use public transport to get to a school and the others a hobby.

In a 40 limit, you're likely to be offered a course up to 53 mph for one of the offences, so in that case it would only be one set of 3 points to worry about.

In the worst case, if you get 2 x 3 points then revocation is automatic: it's a DVLA process, not the courts. That is not the end of the world, as you can get a new provisional and pass your tests again within weeks with a bit of effort.
  • I use public transport usually, but as I said, occasionally I might have to take equipment (drums), which is clearly not viable on public transport. And no, playing I do is not a hobby; it's a (paid) job.

Why do some people think they are a special case and should not obey the speed limits? The fact that there are or are not cameras should make no difference at all.

Those cameras have been there since the end of August , they are both ways from the Polish War Memorial to the Paddington slip.. lots have been caught out I think.

Wow less than two years driving an a professional musician. I bet insurance is expensive.
  • I name myself as a Teaching Assistant cause that's what I am but am a musician, too. It makes it cheaper, obviously.

What happens when I were to get a fine in one day for the Friday and then another the next day? What time do I have if I were to accept a speed awareness course before the 6 points tally up? Do they offer a course straight away?
