A40 London New Average Speed Cameras?

I travel this route regularly and it is clear that an awful lot of drivers haven't realised as they zoom past me, carefully abiding by the new limits. You never know, there may be a grace period as people adjust.
Ignore the posters who never do anything wrong and get off on criticising others. Very sad people.
Thanks very much for the mature and non-sanctimonious comment. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get an offer for a speed awareness course, at least.0 -

Any sanctmony was caused by this statement of yours in post #1:
"the limit is 40mph, but is like a 50mph road) and, of course, I was speeding between 50-60mph"
It's very easy to feel morally superior to someone who states that they were speeding almost as a matter of course.
Almost everyone has exceeded the speed limit - but your attitude sucks.0 -
Hello,
Can I ask if you actually received the speeding ticket? I think I've been going a
bit over 40... wondering how it worked out for you.
thanks!

Hi there,
I can tell you that nothing came through the post. I also drive down the A40/Paddington slip quite regularly and I see A LOT of people breaking the limit, average speed cameras or not. I don't even know if they've been activated or not. There's also generally a leniency with a few mph over the limit.
Good luck in not receiving anything!0 -
I exceeding speed limits around London on a daily basis for ten years, often doubling them when deemed safe and within the boundaries of a claimed exemption.
Speed can indeed kill, but it usually only when stupidity is also deployed.
So you think that it is okay for YOU to speed around London at twice the legal limit because YOU consider it to be safe.
A former partner to a relative of mine killed himself and 3 others pretty much doing what you claim to do on a daily basis. I think his attitude was pretty much the same as yours0 -

I think you'll find that poster was an emergency services driver. Hence the reference to exemptions, which you missed/ignored.0 -

Which he didn't mention in his post. Obviously if he was trained and fulfilling his role this makes things different0 -

To the OP, if you have an accident or your car gets broke into and your drums are stolen, good luck getting anything out of your insurer. At the very best you will get second hand value for them unless they are insured through another means...which will reveal your employment part time or otherwise as it will be shared on the Insurer's database.
There's the old musician's joke:
What happens when a drummer isn't keeping time very well?
They take one of his sticks off him and make him a conductor! (Ta-dum Tish!)0 -
My guess is that average speed cameras must have a bigger error margin than fixed cameras. Going round the inside of bends is going to give a faster average speed than going around the outside. My (uneducated) guess is that doing high 40's in a 40 may well not trigger a ticket unless the road is straight.Je suis sabot...0
