Glad you had a good Christmas AC. I got invited out and it was great, loads of nice presents and things to eat. Even better the snow has gone and it isn't so windy. We had 60 mile an hour gusts and the wheelie bins took off up the garden.

Good to hear you had a good Xmas day AC. I did too at youngest's- she's is a great cook and is very good company too. I "may" have missed the end of The Lion King film due to temporary eye closure following lunch and a glass or two of something fruit-based (ahem. Back at home now and just had breakfast (mince pie, chocolate biscuits and fig rolls) and contemplating another cup of tea. Cat ignored me for 2 hours after getting back but is now grumbling about something. Not sure why as he has ample food and water, has had a few treats, been out (but climbed back in through the bathroom window then yowled because the door was closed), and been stroked. He is going to vet's on Friday and may have the rest of his teeth out as he keeps getting gum infections. Not looking forward to cost of that but hope it will keep him healthy for another few years.
Hope LL had a restful Xmas and dad is ok.
  • Thanks dreaming:)
I don't know if you know, but you can get toothpaste for cats.
You can mix it with food( don't let him see it), or put some on his paw.:)

Hi AC, all. Glad you had a good time, AC, your friend sounds great. Are you feeling more settled, now? Hope your 'flu is gone, soon.

Good luck with sorting your furry friend, dreaming, I hope he is OK. The best way we have found to prevent dental problems is by feeding biscuits designed to clean their teeth... This works very well for tiggers who eat the darned biscuits. You can train them to tolerate having their teeth cleaned if you start from when they are kittens but, with adult cats, it is almost certainly too late. Charlie would leave if we tried to do that to him, now. We did try, years ago, with the toothpaste but they did not like it and ran away. It takes months or years to build up trust between human and tigger, and seconds to destroy it, imho.

LL, hope your dad, you and your sister managed to enjoy your festive season.

Yes - I know about the toothpaste, and in the past have used it (or at least tried to) on one of my previous cats to brush teeth using a finger piece (a bit like a thimble) with tiny bristles on. Very funny and a complete waste of time. This one (Alfie) had a thing called calicivirus which causes problems with their mouths, so he did have his back teeth removed years ago. I took him and his sister (Mollie) in some 13 years ago when they were just a few weeks old and had been kept in really bad conditions. Mollie was a tabby and was small and dainty (but a ferocious hunter). Unfortunately she developed cancer of the bowel and died earlier this year. Alfie is a great big ginger puss who used to clear off for days on end (despite having had "the snip") but these days his domain is my back garden, and he tends to panic if a leaf falls too near him. Unfortunately the virus can stay in their immune system and cause joint problems which, along with his size, has definitely caused arthritis. He spends most of the time following me round the house or garden and likes to sleep on my bed, or next to me on the sofa. If I go out my DD has said that he wanders round the house yowling before he settles down to sleep. He is also known as Mr Grumpy-guts, or Plodders (my DD's name for him).
I have had some real characterful cats over the years, including one who reminded us of Dougal in Father Ted (very sweet and well-meaning but rather thick), and also one we called the unluckiest black cat in the world as he was in so many accidents. Not to mention the one who was found trying to eat the defrosting Xmas turkey one year which was in a plastic crate on top of the wardrobe ( a few well-placed rashers of bacon covered the bite marks!:rotfl:). But I have said that when Alfie goes I will not have any more - too expensive (emotionally and financially) and a trip hazard when you are getting older!
  • Hello smodlet :) Feeling more settled, but the flu is still there , although not as bad. Hope yours was good:)
Dreaming: I love cats, but wouldn't have another one. Hoping to see some around the place I eventually live :)

I imagine LL is extremely busy at this time. Fingers crossed, all went as well as it could .
  • Haven't been on here since you exchanged contracts, but been following the board.....congratulations on exchanging, completing and moving...what a way to end this year and to welcome in the new year with excitement of what you will buy.
Congratulations....actually coming shopping in Poole tomorrow, as staying with family in Dorset.
  • Thanks savingmore:)
