Dunno, it depends if it's leasehold, which I can only assume it is, being in London. Sounds about right, if so. I'd still shop around, though. It's a bit strange but it has been my experience that, the further north you go, the cheaper solicitors' fees are, just (broadly) like property prices. Maybe call a few in Berwick? :) But £25 a pop? Yikes!

    "Yes it's ozzy
I'm sure she is the leading character in Les miserables."

I just went to this crazy, visual place of a heavy metal version of Les Mis :rotfl:

    Sounds about right.......

Let's face it anything to do with buying and selling houses is simply a Licence to print money.........everyone wants their piece of the pie.

As for who you choose well I'm an old fashioned girl - I like to do business face to face. And I expect a cup of coffee......

Only tried an online outfit once......a diasaaaaster Dahlings So now I stick with "Lucy" the youngest and most dynamic partner in a law firm who seem to have been around since the year dot.

Their offices are shabby and smell a bit musty - like something out of a Dickens novel. What a proper law firm looks like. :rotfl:

The same firm have done all our wills, POAs, conveyancing the lot. Lucy used to come out to the nursing home to see my husband when he got too ill to travel to her office.

They were one of the few firms prepared to do this. So for me it's not always about price it's who offers the best service.

And I trust that she will act in my best interests. Trust is a valuable commodity. She has advised me well in the past so I stick with her.

I know exactly what you mean, LL. Kind of expect the smell of old leather and books but I was so glad I did not have to further than the computer to get our stuff done, no time at the time. Everyone needs to do what is right for them at the time and in the circumstances and, given the choice, I would take the same, Dickensian route as you.:)

Yeah, it's leasehold . He used to be based in soho, but is now near the British museum in Bloomsbury .
Saves the hassle of going backwards and forwards etc.
    I'll,reply to him later .

I have an interesting take to tell:
When I was buying this property, the seller insisted I contact him once a week. Must've been scared that I'd pull out for some reason .
I had to bid the asking price ,and no regrets there.

So, about 2 weeks before completion:'are you moving in this weekend??'
Me: ' not yet, still waiting for all to go through'
So, he insisted I contact my solicitor.

Monday morning 11.30"am.. It raining while I'm in Holborn on the way to the wimpy .,
I tried a few times. Then ..' Tell your vendor to F off ..tell your estate agent to F off ..tell their solicitor to F off ..in fact tell everybody to F off !
    I'm dealing with it!!'
But only one day over the 12 week buying and selling, he come up,trumps.
I shouldn't have been pressurised by the seller ;)
    I'll use him again ;)

    Thanks again
Yesterday was great. Went into one estate agent, who gave me a couple of printouts of properties available in Westbourne .
I liked Westbourne the best .Penn hill was nice, but as I don't drive , it may be a little out of the way . Ashley cross was good also.

On the way up on the train, I got a call from the estate agents .
    One viewing happened yesterday morning.
    I think I have 3 viewings for Saturday .
I will speak to solicitor on Monday , if the interest is there .
Had a couple of beers and coffees yesterday along the route.

Just gonna have some breakfast in b& b.
Will be seeing my friend around 10 am for couple of hours , then home early afternoon.
    Nice couple of days ;)
