Thank you, AC and a huge thank you and :A, GallyGirl, for putting things back in perspective for me. I just hated having to wade through all the vicious crap just to get to the helpful stuff, of which there was plenty and of sterling quality. Thank you also for taking the time and trouble to check it out, much appreciated. The !!!! you get for trying to help someone. The way to hell really is paved with good intentions, innit?
OK, I'm done, this is AC's thread and only three more sleeps to go before your trip to the seaside! I think quite a few of us are getting excited. You guys rock!0 -

Complications are just what you don't need!!
If he can sort out his finances to enable him to buy your property on the open market, at the price you want, in the timescale you can expect buyers, then fine.
But don't get involved.
[I'm not saying it's a non-starter, but does it seem very realistic? That's for him to answer, not for you to waste time pondering ....]
Enjoy the trip to Poole this week.
Looking forward to my own holiday in Dorset (near Sherborne, end of June). But not wishing it here too quickly, as after that the days start getting shorter again  Another half year will have gone, and unlike you, I won't have made much progress on achieving my goals for this year.
I've related to your thread as I've also been struggling to make some changes, for a mixture of mid-50s-lack-of-motivation-and-minor-health/energy issues. I made major changes at 30 and have been living my life exactly where and how I want for several decades. Very happy about that! No longer need to work much, but need to change even that due to minor sight problems. Planning to renovate house a bit before earning future income from low-scale AirBnB so that I don't tap into pensions too early. And state pension is still 10 years away.
Have already been an international host, voluntarily, for many years. But house currently too shabby for paying guests. Needs renovation anyway, long overdue. I have the funds. But I'm not making much progress; life already rather full! And/or changes at our stage of life seem harder ...
I shall start taking inspiration from you!0 -

Get out into the sunshine, now!:D0

Hi AC - just a quickie.
I would reiterate what others have said........don't let your brother put a spanner in the works, especially as he has "history".........not coughing up rent for six months, complicating things, being a doom mongerer and nay sayer etc. You don't need that kind of hassle.
If he wants your house, then he needs to pay you full market value.
TBH given his age I don't think he can realistically afford it anyway. Yes you can get mortgages until you are 85 but they are expensive and it's not ideal to take on extra debt on the eve of retirement. If he defaults and gets into trouble will you end up feeling guilty and bail him out.
It's up to you of course but I would just put your faith in the open market. Theres plenty of activity at the moment, especially in London and the south. I don't think you are going to have much difficulty in finding a buyer.
I know we all like to help out family when we can but your brother has "form" so my advice is stay clear.
Just my opinion of course.:rotfl:0 -
I absolutely concur. Please, AC, move away, your brother is responsible for his own life; he's not your responsibility.0

Smodlet - don't let cyberspace bullies and keyboard warriors bug you.
Most of them just need to get a life. :rotfl:
Right I'm off now......going to my sisters to book my next trip. :rotfl:
We are taking our 90 year old dad to Belguim in August. I'm not that fussed really but I can't leave her to manage on her own, it will be like a military operation, what with wheelchairs and all his medication.
Anyway it will be a nice trip, chance to catch up with family and hopefully pop over to Bruges for the day. He wants to go to Ypres too so it will be a busy few days. Aiming for August so it will be nice and warm for him, he feels the cold.0 -
Bon voyage, LL, and thank you for your lovely words.
If we Brexit while you're away, will you be allowed back in, think you?:D Tell them we like bendy bananas and curvy cucumbers from me, would you? :rotfl:
You guys so cheer me up. Ta!0 -
Enjoy your break LL;) Barcelona first, then Belgium in August..cool!;)
More news ; my neighbour down below( eccentric at best), has decided to cut her climbers down, and mow the lawn.
Maybe, she realises that I'm moving.
She is almost retirement age. Looks a bit like Ozzy .
When her husband was alive, he was one of the nicest people you could meet.
I had to ask a few times, if they would cut their garden( even volunteered ).In the end I got squirrels in the loft.
A couple of years , we fell out about her garden coming up to my window .
It was around this time I got myasthenia Gravis.
So, the garden's done .
I'm in 2 minds whether to get some bark chip pings delivered for my garden .(more expense).
That's all it needs. I'll see what mr. Estate agent has to say
I've just got to clean kitchen / bathroom floors, dusting and tidy up my computer desk which is overloaded.
Then , tomorrow comes...

Do you still have the squirrels? If so, better ask them to be quiet when your viewers come around.0
