How much exercise CAN you actually do with your m.g.? [It's not a condition I know much about].

There may not be many gyms, but I bet there'll be loads of Over-50s exercise groups ....!!! I accompanied my Dad (then about 85) to one, and realised I could go in my own right, as I was 51! :o

More seriously, I'm sure that as well as the oldies, Poole attracts a lot of sporty/outdoor/sailing people, so I'd be surprised if there weren't lots of interesting exercise options around when you start researching.

Good luck with all the plans.

    Thanks Tuesday.
Myasthenia is a condition where you tire more quickly.
Yoga and Pilates are the best exercises imho.
Bike / cross trainer won't do it much harm either.

The reason I want to go to a gym, is I want to see a personal trainer who can combine these things with me and a little bit of weights won't do any harm either . Only a little.
I used to be strong as an ox.

An example of m g : when painting. The arms tire much more quickly with basic movements.when pushing heavyitems, breathlessness comes quicker etc.
I expect things to be very tough initially, but I believe that when I lose the weight( and keep it off ) , the condition will hardly be there.
I won't be as strong as I was, but at least I will be fitter.
    That is the plan ;)

There are several gyms, a yoga centre and pilates classes in Poole, according to my 5 mins of googling, so I think you'll be fine!

Yoga and pilates are brilliant for keeping you flexibile and improving muscle tone. Definitely need to be at the core of your regime, but on their own won't lose you much weight.

I understand about the personal trainer, and that joining in sports groups could lead you to do too much / not be able to keep up, etc. You do need a personal regime.

Must be difficult when you need to do more activity to lose weight, but doing more tires you. Do you recover fairly quickly? Sounds like a little but often might be the way to go?

Hopefully walking groups would be OK, for both exercise and socialising? I had wondered about rowing as the rowing club do a 3-week course for £30. But that might be too strenuous at the moment? [Personally I'd rather row a real boat than go to a gym ....!]

It might be worth being in Poole for the weekend of 24th July: There's a 'join in' sports taster event in a park, that all the local sports/exercise clubs will be attending including some 'non-traditional' ones, which sounds intriguing.
Listed on the Poole council leisure and fitness page:
    http://www.poole.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/sports-clubs-fitness/
Even if it's not for your current level of fitness, it would give you some idea of what's available for the future.

I've always been active (walking, yoga, dancing, gardening) but never particularly sporty. I played a bit of badminton in my 20s, but then not for 25 years. So I'm amazed that next month it'll be 5 years that a small group of us women in our 50s and 60s [and one turned 70 last month] have kept up a regular badminton booking every Monday evening. [I'm a female tenor by the way!] We don't actually run round the court very much, but we do lots of stretching, and picking up the shuttlecock from the floor! And we are often in hysterics: we started for exercise, but it's the laughter that has kept us going! Worth considering if you can find the right people.

Also have a look at 'What's On' and 'Diary' websites to find things like walks.

Hope that gives you some ideas/encouragement.

[Paid the balance for my Dorset holiday this week. Only 5 weeks to go! Woo hoo!]

Seems like there's a club for everything somewhere near Poole!

    You could try something new:

Also on that Poole council list:

Support to engage, including supported gym sessions, easy circuits, easy salsa etc:

I'm thinking little but often, and variety ...

Thanks very much, for the fantastic help here. I will look into it.
Went to my sisters today, while my place had viewings.
Didn't realise there was a big rugby match today in twickenham.
Normally, I do . Got back missing the crowd.

Sister said I looked well, since I last saw her. Nephew said same .
They're very relaxed people, and I think they believe in my plan.

Little and often for me at the gym. It'll be nice to get there and sort something out. Love your stories Tuesday ;) inspirational also ;)
Monday will be interesting. Can't expect much, as it's only been Monday since I put my place up for sale. We shall see ;)

Sounds like you need to spend more time hanging around them rather than energy sapping brother :D. Here's hoping for a second viewing from this batch :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • So, no phone callas yet.
    1 email..'needs a lot of work , would have to be under £400 000'
So, disheartening . 4 more reports to come.
    If I get £400,000 I'll take it .
One of my friends said I should lower the price now .
    I may do that

A bit early to lower the price? Any way of further sprucing up or decluttering to improve presentation? Also don't forget a lot of such stuff is negotiation tactics to get the cheapest price to buy.

  • Noooooo! Don't do that, it's really early days, you haven't even been on the market for a week yet. Some people don't even want to decorate, but others will see the potential and how they can make it personal to them.

London prices are going up faster than other areas, always have, always will. Even if it takes a while longer than you anticipate the Poole prices won't rise in the same way.

I've been enjoying your thread for several reasons, I'm originally from Bournemouth and Mum still lives in the Parkstone area but I'm tempted to do the opposite to you and retire to London! I just feel I've got to live there for a while but can't at the moment because of work commitments.

So, please don't lower your price because everyone will want to knock you down a bit and don't accept a first offer unless it's the asking price!
