  • Thanks Wendy .
    Obviously things are happening fast.
However , I must remind myself of the things I have been saying over the last few months : ' I've had enough !' ' so long as this place is sold , I don't care !' you get the picture . Now that it's come on top , and if it's as smooth as it sounds , I will be renting .
Yes, I think 1 bedroom is the way to go . One room full of everything bar the TV. One calm bedroom , and some clutter in the living room.
( all in plastic containers of course- funds permitting. )

I'm pretty sure you have been asked this, and it's none of my business, but are you set on two bedrooms?

It looks as if you could easily recoup the money you 'lost' by reducing your price if you bought a one bedroom flat.

Of course that would mean your brother couldn't turn up for a month......

I have looked at a couple of one bedrooms. One has a roof terrace .
One ( for a one bed ) is massive . It has a study and looks good .

At the end of the day , it's only me .
I will buy a decent guest bed , sofa bed for visitors . Maybe a guest bed also .
I will have time to reflect ..

Prepare yourself for at least one 2am moment when you convince yourself that you've gone off the whole idea and want to stay put after all.

You can casually drop the quote into small talk while sipping cocktails on your roof terrace, after impressing everyone with Smodlet's classical allusions.

Thank you, wendym, I am sure George R R Martin would be deeply edified to be described thus!

Terrific news AC, well done to you. :T:j:beer:

(still no Quote or Thanks buttons)

Was it not you referring to Sparta? Was that George R R M as well?

If it wasn't you, my apologies to our other scholar. And to AC for not advancing his cause at all.

Wendym - that Sparta quote - guilty as charged, M'lud.

    It's one of my favourites.

Not Martin. It's attributed to the Ephors - the council of five who assisted and advised the king.

I love the wit of the Spartans - their land was called Laconia - Hence the term "laconic".

The film 300 portrays them as meatheads but actually their rapier wit was just as much a weapon as their muscles, skills with a sword and military prowess. .

Legend has it that the "if" reply was enough to deter Phillip of Macedon. Presumably it was said with considerable menace..........

What is known (according to Plutarch) is that neither Phillip nor his son, Alexander the Great, ever managed to conquor the Spartans.

Shakespeare's idiom...."the pen is mightier than the sword" is said to refer to the laconic tradition of eviscerating your enemy by a well placed pithy verbal response.

AC - An October completion.....great stuff, go for it.

No more dark winter mornings and nights spent commuting .......instead you can be tucked up warm and cosy.

When those night time terrors strike just tell yourself "no more 5 am starts on a freezing cold winters morning".

Exciting times AC and I think a quick sale without you trying to buy at the same time will be better for your mental health (and all of ours :rotfl:).

If you use firefox for browsing then have a look at http://www.property-bee.com/welcome.php?version=2.1.0.2&action=upgrade
When you then go on rightmove it shows all changes on listings, including all movement of prices on individual properties. Useful price wise and also helps you spot previously sold properties back on the market, you may be able to swoop and get a good deal if someone is looking for a quick sale.

I don't suppose your friend has a garage you could store your furniture in and you could just go for a private room rental for six months? That would save you a bit of money. A flat contents can take up a very small amount of space, especially if you get rid of sofas etc before you move. Don't be afraid to ask your purchasers of they would like to buy anything (or, if nit worth selling, if they would like them free of charge, meaning you wouldn't have the hassle of getting rid!).
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
