  • Nothing for me to add today. Things like Topcashback and COS are ongoing but I won't add until I actually cash them out. It's been a day of general planning - work, Christmas, budget etc. I've kept busy but nothing outwardly productive.
  • I know exactly what you mean, Procrastinater;)

I sell quite a lot of books on Amazon (well, attempt to/hope to anyway) and the 1p sellers are a real pain. They totally spoil it for the rest of us:mad:. I refuse to join in their little game. Once I listed a book at something like 80p (very small and light so could just about get away with a few pence profit from the postal allowance) and it appeared behind a couple of pages of 1p ones but someone still opted to buy mine quite soon after listing:j. I suspect it's something to do with perceived value, anything costing a mere 1p can't be any good type of thing.

Most of the 1p sellers are big businesses and I suppose they can stand the loss but there is no way they can make any profit on a book even with preferential postage rates and less fees if the book is anything heavier/thicker than the cheapest 'large letter' price.................

.............................It's a problem to know what to do with the more popular books that Amazon is awash with at 1p a time so I tend to sell mine at car boot sales (along with other stuff) throughout the season. Even at 40p each/3 for £1 it's a lot better than losing money on Amazon and they sell like hot cakes usually.

I don't know CBC - I'm not sure how it's even worth wrapping them up and taking them to the PO at those margins.

So just out of curiosity - would you be selling the "Shades of Gray..." books at 40 p ? for example.

I don't know about the Shades of Gray prices as I've never tried to sell any. This is a rural area, the car boot sales round here are fairly small and the customers don't want to pay much. It's a case of getting whatever I can just to clear the clutter in lots of cases. Run of the mill paperback novels which were very popular so there are zillions in circulation won't go for more than 40p a time round here I'm afraid. May well be different where you are. Unusual books, as new ones, hardbacks etc etc would fetch more but there's no hard and fast rule, I play it by ear a lot of the time.

If you plan to do it I'd recommend a visit to a couple first just to do a recce and get a feel for the prices. I've seen car boot sales where paperback novels in excellent condition were on sale at 20p each and the buyers weren't fighting over them even at that price. A lot depends on the location and popularity of a sale.

I know I am very late (!) to the party, but would I be able to join in with the challenge? Keen to be more mindful of making some extra pennies now, rather than leaving it until the new year.
