Mobile Roaming: Cheapest Calls When You're Abroad

Better to use Vectone UK. For the UK they charge 50 p for 125 MB for one day.

Vector gets such grim reviews that I would not consider porting my main number to them. Pity as the PAYG data deal does look tempting.0 -
This new company is €6 per day for up to 150MB in Europe:

You swap the sim over. They provide micro sims. €33.90 for the sim.
I have not used, so can't vouch for them
I suspect it's a Vodafone Italy SIM
Some other Vodafone networks have daily bundles like this0 -
Yes, 0.59/MB of course, so not cheap, but still the cheapest and easiest around I think.
Although, if anyone knows of one better, I'd be delighted to hear about it.
Simyo Germany, 49 cents a megabyte in EU, 10 kB units
optional €4.99 add-on of 50 MB for a week, 100 kB units
If you need larger amounts then probably local SIM cards, monthly bundles around a few euros0 -

Strangely though, their overall star rating is either better than or the same as orange, T Mobile, Vodafone and virgin. But if you look at the comments they do seem to get slagged off an awful lot. If I were to use them, I might well have them as a second Sim and swap it in only when I knew I needed a lot of data.koru0 -
Agree, and worth noting that some people regretted setting up a direct debit on Vectone - I assume its SIM can be used in payg top up mode only and still get that data rate? Comparison sites seem to be listing data at 5p or 10p per MB, rather than a daily fixed amount price.0

I've been with Vectone for 3 years now and they have been fine. Free calls between others with Vectone has been useful. Also got one of their micro-sims recently for an iPad and 10MB/day data is free (for 4 weeks after topping up). Also had no problem in porting an old number to get 100 free mins for 2 months. Vectone is much cheaper than nearly all other payg providers.0 -
You mean like on here?:

This thread is for discussion of roaming, not the general reliability or otherwise of UK networks
The website you mentioned is for affiliate referrals, maybe favouring some brands over others, perhaps due to better commission arrangements, and thus not necessarily independent.
Whilst Vectone and similar brands are based on having cheap international calls, that means for calls made from the UK.
Their roaming rates are nothing special at all. They match the Eurotariff as required in the EU, don't offer that in more European countries like other networks do, are more expensive than some other ordinary UK brands for roaming in the rest of the world, and don't seem to publish roaming data rates (or I haven't found it so far)
In other words, it's off-topic in this thread.
As that website isn't necessarily independent, and is not set up as a public serivce, perhaps you'd kindly stop inadvertently helping to promote it. A certain username seems to have had all his posts about it removed from here.0 -
There is an off on via Gumtree for a reduced price Sim. If one accepts the monthly charge, the expiration of credit etc. is there anything else to be particularly worried about.
I would be wanting it to be able to receive free calls whilst in the USA mainly?
Thanks for any personal feedback.0 -
Hi,
I am off to work in Holland March-November I have been trying to research what is the best option tarrif wise. As I will probably just get a simcard whilst away. Can anybody recommend one where it is resonable enough to contact the UK.
Thanks
