well the Amazon reviews absolutely pan it:

Some of those reviews, not just one, both for and against, are rather less than honest.

Worldsim is on the same platform as several other global SIMs, which has been a merger of what were originally 2 separate arrangements, with some having therefore replaced SIMs a few months ago. The different brands could be thought of as resellers or white labels.

They work perfectly well almost all of the time, though there was a period in the winter of 2007/08 with no service on the one group, which has been under different ownership since then without problems.

Looking at the cost of the WorldSIM (and bearing in mind that it effectively costs £1 pm to keep 'alive') I think I'm best served by the Orange Europe Traveller add-on at £5.10 for 30 days:

    200 mins @ 28.6p/min to make calls (normally 38.8p/min)
    AND
200 mins to receive calls for free (normally 14.3p/min)
  • can someone please recommend a good place other than ebay where i can buy a Fido SIM?

Am I right in thinking that this is not available to PAYG customers? i.e. pay monthly only.

I need a SIM for a Europe for a month or so but don't need a contract.........
  • I have an iPhone 4 (microsim), my sweetheart GF lives in the US, I visit her every couple of months (going again in two weeks time). Each time I inevitably, at some point, find a reason to use 3G data whilst out and about, I then return home and find a phone bill of £100.

I know this question has already been answered i.e. the best advice is to get a local sim on AT&T / T-Mobile / Verizon.

    My particular question is:

    - Can I get a microsim on PAYG with no monthly commitments, decent price for 3G / data usage? Which carrier is best for this? I'd like to get a sim before I head out there next...

Obviously it would be good to have PAYG so I'm not paying line rental for my US sim as I'm in the UK for 90% of the year!

    Thank you everybody!

If you're not attracted by a global SIM, take a look at O2 My Europe Extra

£10 fee for a month of free incoming calls, outgoing at 25 pence a minute

and maybe use a callback service

All this very good advice is certainly better than just buying a foreign sim card!

Do mobile companies it the UK have to adhere to the EU law? I would have expected so, but if the wiki I found is correct -

    h t t p://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_on_roaming_charges_in_the_European_Union

    - talkmobile are currently charging more than the law states for receiving a call.
