most EU based customers traveling within the EU should have no use for an international SIM.

Agreed, but as I wrote my Lycamobile Dutch payg sim does not provide data when out of NL. Hence my search for a better alternative. I might look for a payg sim from a bigger player (such as T-Mobile) that does.

Hi Stephen. Thanks for that info, very interesting. If those are the maximums how come the 'world sim' type of products typically charge a higher rate? Because they are based outside the EU perhaps?

Maybe they'll put the price down come the 1st of July :)

Have you checked Toggle mobile? Unlike 'big players' they offer two numbers in one sim - UK & Netherlands

Yes, Toggle are looking attractive, or at least worth a good try. Especially as they have a Dutch site, so I can get that as my 'home' number there.

It all changes tomorrow! Roaming drops to calls EUR0.19/min out, 0.05 in, 0.08/SMS, 0.20/Mb (all ex-VAT), plus we get the right to choose a different operator for roaming (sometimes called a Local Breakout Provider). Anyone heard from their mobile operators about how this will work in practice?

Already had a text from VOdafone , they are trying to get around the eu directives by charging you 2 quid a day to use the roaming service!

two weeks abroad soon , in my case with payg ,would be 28 quid , with the statement that if you dont get or send txt or calls theres no charge!

Something MSE should expose asap as peak holiday season is just around the corner!

Im ditching vodafone after 25 years because of it , and the fact that in 10 years they have not fixed my not spot , instead wanted me to supply them with a shared suresignal point , and charge me for the favour!
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Perhaps you'll be able to cancel your contract early with not charge due to this nonsense.

Well, Toggle was a blow out unfortunately. Looked ideal but even though they have a Dutch website the service is UK-centric. Even if I sign up on the Dutch site I will be issued a uk number as my 'home' number. I can buy a Dutch number to associate with their sim also but all my texts and calls will appear 'from' the uk number. I can see that getting confusing for my Dutch contacts. As I will be there most of the time that makes it a no go sadly. I guess I will just have to get another payg Dutch sim from a provider that allows data roaming and continue giving uk contacts my UK Sonetel number, so they can call me at local rates.

Try https://www.didlogic.com instead of sonetel it's alot cheaper.

Thanks Stephen, I will check them out.

Looks like I spoke too soon about Toggle - after some thinking I wrote to customer services again to ask them to confirm their statement (that even customers of their Dutch site get a uk primary number). That made no sense. After all, Toggle is Lycramobile and I know they offer Dutch sims.

Seems that they got it wrong after all - if I order from the Dutch site then my primary number should be Dutch :) Toggle on paper looks like an ideal solution for me. So I have emailed their Dutch customer service to check but hopefully a Dutch primary sim with a secondary uk number will be a great solution.
