Mobile Roaming: Cheapest Calls When You're Abroad

I have a rather silly question, when you go abroad, is the network meant to send a text detailing the roaming costs for that country?
I got the texts when in Canada (and when the phone connected to the US networks at Nigeria), but I went to Jersey for a long weekend earlier this month and got no text detailing the roaming costs, which I thought was a bit odd.0 -
Quite a good question - usually they do send them, but is it a requirement?
My phone once turned itself on during a flight - had welcome to France & welcome to Switzerland texts when I landed - oops!!! At least the plane didn't get lost - why do they say mobiles must be switched off?Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0 -
I would have thought it would be a requirement to avoid "bill shock".
As for mobiles, you were lucky to get a signal, I believe BA have changed the rules to allow use of electronic equipment (in flight-safe mode) from the moment you board to the moment you depart.0 -
Totally rubbish, DO NOT BUY, IT DON’T Work, got the sim was unable to receive calls called customer service was told they are going to pass on to there technical team and can take 24hrs + for response. Wasted £5 to call the global sim number. Cost 35p per min on O2, 50p On T-mobile. As soon as you call the number to test if its working it straight way gives you a automated message saying unable to connect call or number not available. I thought the message was my network but it wasn’t. I called O2 and T-Mobile who informed even thou it connected for second I will be charged the fee as the connection was made and that the automated message is from the telecom provider in Jersey. IT’S A SCAM!!! They are making money for every call that is connected. ITS NOT UK Number. Most UK network are charging a premium rate. Will be writing this Review on every page associated with this scam.0

The company do supply a geographical UK number you can call them on.
See: http://www.0044.co.uk/contact-us.htm
You cant be charged when using it properly as it operates a call back service.
They tell you its a Jersey Number.
They do warn you to check prices before calling the number.
" How much does it cost to call the SIM?
If you choose to provide contacts with the +44 79 Jersey mobile number when you travel, people in the UK can call you for the price of calling a Jersey mobile, no matter where you are in the world. UK landline providers charge from 10p/min and UK mobile providers charge from 20p/min to call Jersey numbers. Callers should verify this with their own network first to establish whether calls and texts are part of their plan or charged at national or international rates."

@oldharryrocks
You clearly work for 0044.co.uk I don’t think you read what I said? By the way Its cost 18p per min from a BT Land Line to call Jersey Mobile just got confirmation from BT.
BT Charges 18p per min (Confirmed with BT I have Transcript of the conversation)
Giffgaff Charges 16p per min
O2 charges 35p per min
T-Mobile 50p per min (Ex VAT 42p)
Three charges £1.04,
Virgin Charges 42p per min
I have no idea where you got the 10p figure.0 -

No i dont work for them and if you bothered to read my post properly your see i am quoting what is said on there website. They dont mention BT either they just say UK landline providers charge from 10p/min . Perhaps you should complain to the ASA if you think they are misleading people.0 -
I'll be in the US for 10 days next month (Seattle and San Francisco) and looking to use an iPhone for satnav.
Any suggestions for a SIM to pick up locally, mainly for data although may make some calls within the US if I have it?
I am with T-Mobile here but presume roaming is a bad idea
The 3 SIM looked a good option but I discovered it too late for my trip.0 -
You don't need a sim (mobile data) for using satnav (although you might need to download USA map fist?). Just switch mobile data (and data roaming) off.
For just a few short calls any local sim will do the job if your phone isn't locked to T-mobile. Or just just pay £1.20/min to T-mobile.0 -
