Windows 10 free, a con?

My experience with win 10. I have Acer Aspire Timeline U with Win 7, I upgraded it to Win 10 and it just didn't work properly, maybe because I din't format it before I don't know. But important thing is that when you upgrade it to win 10 you can still downgrade to win 7 easily in the control panel area, win 10 has that option because they know Win 10 is not there yet. I will what for service pack 1 to come out before upgrading again.0

Well, if you feel the need to defend Microsoft for putting spying features into their OS, then you go right ahead; I said there is a lot of chatter about it, which is a hint to take a look or at least bear the issues in mind.
I agree that here (and this thread) should not be the sole source of information. However, the point is that the OS defaults the features to enabled and you have to go and look for ways to turn them off; indeed some of the features you can't.
Rather than me re-wording it, here's a link to a URL titled "Windows 10 is possibly the worst spyware ever made": Or maybe "Microsoft’s Windows 10 has permission to watch your every move". And the Mirror has summarised the issues. But, whether or not you are a Microsoft evangelist, it's good to see that you accept that the opinions are valid, anyway.
Yes we can all find the frenzied accusations that have just been rehashed in various articles without actually saying anything new. (I still can't believe you quote the Mirror....).
However, there are more measured articles out there that don't feed on the paranoia of the masses and actually look at the issue more objectively.
For example..... http://www.zdnet.com/article/no-microsoft-is-not-spying-on-you-with-windows-10/
and here...... http://www.compukiss.com/featured-stories/is-windows-10-spying-on-us.html
Pushing the spying tag is just repeating bad journalism.

No. If you have Windows 7 or Windows 8[.1] you can install Windows 10 "for free" until 29 July 2016.
Be warned that the free copy of Windows 10 is just an OEM version, so you can't keep it if you significantly upgrade your PC. Instead you'll have to pay full price for a new copy.0 -
As I said, I provided links to sites where the concerns were voiced, rather than rehashing them myself; I'm not one to use the Mirror as a reference generally, but it did seem to sum things up.
I'm not sure about the use of "frenzied", but are you saying that the above links which point out the nuances of the Windows 10 licence are not factually correct?0 -
Bear in mind that Windows 10 upgrade is only free for 12 months, after that you will have to pay for it - perhaps that could be regarded as the "con". I finally upgraded my 8.1 machine a few days ago and so far it's been fine, although I haven't done the 7 one yet.
Please send link where they will charge us after a year!!
I believe they not annouce yet what they going to do.. might be free for good, or a subsrciption to pay or a one off payment... nothing been said yet! thou do think we wil have to pay for it thou... wait till microsoft has break the news 1st. I still have 8.1 on disk so if they charge a subscription i be staying on that as i didnt think anything wrong with it
Did read somewhere that if it free they will make their money via business by selling it to them or by addon etc like office.. we know business cant be without office0 -
any subscriptions will be for "apps" , not the basic core OS , they are trying to go the way of Iphones and playstore with their own paid for apps
office either for the home user or business has always been a paid for program or app , there is not a basic word prosessor built into the OS (excluding notepad)0 -

Add a bit of common sense and you are called a 'Microsoft evangelist' or apologist. Amazing...

yes the screen you keep seeing is the offer to update to win 10 , follow the instructions (click on the link) to upgrade , or do not bother.
if you are fed up of the nag screen , it is shown online how to remove it
quick change of the subject , almost getting back to the original question!0
