How do "they" know what ive got on my PC? They are spying on us..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Bear in mind that Windows 10 upgrade is only free for 12 months, after that you will have to pay for it - perhaps that could be regarded as the "con". I finally upgraded my 8.1 machine a few days ago and so far it's been fine, although I haven't done the 7 one yet.

Well, it is free from the manufacturer, so in that it is bona-fide (assuming it is the correct message being displayed).

However, it does contain spyware - there is quite a lot of chatter about that.

As far as Microsoft goes, they are motivated by protecting their market share, and the two main competitors (Apple and Linux) offer free updates/upgrades. They are also faced with the (real or perceived) debacle of Windows 8, and are trying to retrieve the situation.

However, I'm not planning to upgrade any Windows 7 systems to 10, unless they make it look a bit nicer, cos I don't want to stare at something ugly all day!

I don't think it helps people who are obviously technically on the back foot and not in touch with what's happening to make sweeping statements.
It might help (As you are advocating W7) to inform him how to remove the diagnostic and Telemetry tracking services from W7 for example.

  • If peeps haven't already upgraded, it's maybe worth waiting another 4 or 5 weeks until the November Upgrade of Windows 10 comes out. That enhances/fixes 10 after feedback received.
  • My mom was thought the con is somewhat suspicious virus...

Well, if you feel the need to defend Microsoft for putting spying features into their OS, then you go right ahead; I said there is a lot of chatter about it, which is a hint to take a look or at least bear the issues in mind.

I agree that here (and this thread) should not be the sole source of information. However, the point is that the OS defaults the features to enabled and you have to go and look for ways to turn them off; indeed some of the features you can't.

Rather than me re-wording it, here's a link to a URL titled "Windows 10 is possibly the worst spyware ever made": Or maybe "Microsoft’s Windows 10 has permission to watch your every move". And the Mirror has summarised the issues. But, whether or not you are a Microsoft evangelist, it's good to see that you accept that the opinions are valid, anyway.
