The problem being he creates new identities and before you know it you've got involved in a thread before someone outs him and then the inevitable M3 arrives on the scene.
Its getting to the point that some are not bothering any more and avoiding the forum altogether, if he stayed as one persona you could put it on ignore.0 -

I'm sure that the majority of them are some incarnation of Darkmatter 101. Can't the mods log his IP address and block all of his different persona?
IP addresses will be logged by the forum software (all forum software records IP address and time/date for posts etc), but actually dealing with returning banned users is extremely time consuming and largely ineffective if you're going by IP's, as often IP's are shared between a lot of users, or the user will be getting a new IP on a regular basis.
So you end up looking at more than just the IP address (and that's time consuming enough if you've got a lot new users every day*), and having to look for other clues, or act on reports from users.
One of the joys of being a forum moderator on any large forum is trying to deal with the idiots that can't understand why they're no longer welcome (usually getting banned/blocked 3 or 4 times would give most people a clue).
*And only really of use if you manually approve new users before they can post. A friend was an admin on a forum and it could take him an hour a day to go through new users and pre-ban the obvious bots, previously banned trolls etc (apparently he got very good at spotting the patterns of bots based on their IP addresses, location, email address and name).0 -
Maybe we just need more mods for the motoring forum, so that he can be flagged/PPR'd much more quickly.
Or we should just scrap the motoring forum entirely.0 -
Does anyone else think we're getting to the point of needing a Sticky to alert unsuspecting users of DM and his thousand other aliases?
Whilst he's not the only poster to post uninformed and misleading tripe, there's the bigger issue of unsuspecting users making decisions based on his 'advice' and real world experience. E.g. Toyota Yarises with no rear brakes...0 -
Someone tried and it got deleted. But I think something needs to be done and I guess a sticky would be a start.0

It's a fantastic car. Is that enough credit? Will you drop it now?See this is where part of the problem stems from. Not ONCE has anyone on this forum given any sort of credit to the M3. Yes, it may be suited to most people's needs here but in its own regard it is quite a good car. Everyone here just seems to discredit it either by talking about how "unreliable" it is, how expensive it is, how badly it is engineered, it's build quality and the type of people who drive these machines. Why is this? Is it because the majority of people cannot afford to buy an M3 and have a grudge. Or is it because the M3 is really that bad of a car?
This is a moneysaving forum. Therefore you shouldn't be surprised that the M3 doesn't figure highly in most posters' thoughts.
For the record, so many people don't realise how good they are, and think they're just 'sporty' 3series. And there are a lot around. So that actually makes it a fairly good second hand buy due to depreciation, if you can suck up the running costs.0 -
I agree with Slink. The lynch mob who hang around this forum trying to spot the latest incarnation of some annoying poster are every bit as annoying themselves. It only contributes to the needlessly antagonistic atmosphere of this forum.
Just ignore the guy if you think it's him. But DM-spotting seems to be a major hobby of some people. People say "but I answered a question in good faith, and it turned out to be DM." So what? How much time has that really cost you? Can't you just swallow your pride and let it pass, instead of annoying everybody with yet another "aha, you are DM and I claim my five pounds" post?
