    Sketchers shoes :D

Theres a Sketchers shop on corner of Broadway by Times Square. I have big feet and was easy to get my size in states.

i'd personally rephrase this to any shoes, and they do make larger sizes more easily available

But - UK Customs Duty and VAT on the Customs Duty gets added to the US price including Sales Tax, so you have to pay 3 lots of tax when you declare it on coming back to the UK...

there are a lot of digital cameras that are under £145 ($290 at exchange rates). why do you accuse everyone of trying to evade tax.. cheap digital cameras out in the US are still CHEAPER.. that is all i've said

Maceys do a discount card for tourists (show proof like passport and ticket) that you pick up in store-I think it's 8 or 9%) and is extra to any other in-store discounts.
Also Virgin have a flight sale to NY for the winter on sale til 30 August.

11% discount if you get the card. It is only valid for 30 days (if you sign it, but normally macys don't bother)

    from http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageTravel_ShowContent&id=HMCE_PROD_010220&propertyType=document

"You can bring the following into the UK for your own use without paying UK tax or duty: £145 worth of all other goods including gifts and souvenirs."

So if the you bought a digital camera and a jumper that was worth more than £145 intotal you would have to go through the red channel when arriving in the UK.

Don't forget that this is available at most Macy's stores across the USA including Macy's stores with local names.

    Like Bloomindales!
Both have websites for you to look at to give you an indication of what they sell and at what price.

but if my digital camera is worth £140, and my jumper is worth £20, i will pay tax and customs charges on the £20 jumper.

My understanding is that you would need to pay Customs Duty plus VAT on £160 worth of goods if that is all you bring to the UK at that port of entry, because you have exceeded the limit of £145.

If you object to the rule (and many of us do) then Chancellor Darling is the right person to contact.

You would need to pay the vat and duty on everything you have spent not on the value of the one largest item, for example if you bought 10 jumpers at £45 each you would need to pay the vat and duty on the full amount, not on 7 of them, alas far too many hours working in a red channel has "gifted" me with this knowledge.
