We've just got back from NYC today, and can thoroughly recommend a place called "Daves" between 16th & 17th on Avenue Of The Americas - http://www.davesnewyork.com/

Levi & Carhartt jeans for $35, and a vast choice available.

    .

Another Daves fan here, they know us know because every time we go we walk in and ask for 2 pairs of every colour of Dickies work pants they sell :)

bear in mind it costs $39 for a return bus to woodbury, if you don't think you're going to buy a lot, it might be not be a money saving exercise...

Just thought I'd mention that at the moment, if you buy your Woodbury Common bus tickets online, they are 2 for 1. So $39 between 2 people which seems pretty good. I've just bought mine - it doesn't tie you to a specific bus or anything, and they are valid for a period of I think about 3 months. Link to this is on the Premium Outlets Woodbury Common site.

Also one query...I just received a NY guide through the post that I sent for online a while ago. It's a really good thick book considering it was free. In it, it mentions that any clothes purchase under $110 (I think that was the amounbt) is free of tax.

Is this true? If it is, I would be best splitting up any larger purchases into multiple purchases of $110 each!

It is PER ITEM.. as long as each single item is under $110, it should be free of sales tax.

bear in mind your customs allowance is only £143 (which works out to be $270)

Thanks markymoo. I can't imagine I will be buying any single item of clothing costing this much, so great to have that confirmed.

Also, if the item is over $110 or $100 whatever the threshold actually is, the tax is only 3.5ish%, as the city portion of the tax isn't charged, just the state tax...
  • It's 11%.

I'm going in June for 2 nights and I went to the Macy's web site and clicked for the overseas discount card, they sent me 5 of them.

I go every year to New Jersey now that my parents are getting older and their health isn't the best. So it's 4 nights in Atlantic City at the casinos and the 2 nights in NYC.

Maceys do a discount card for tourists (show proof like passport and ticket) that you pick up in store-I think it's 8 or 9%) and is extra to any other in-store discounts.
Also Virgin have a flight sale to NY for the winter on sale til 30 August.

We are off to NY in just over a week, it was my daughter's 18th birthday a couple of days ago and she wants to buy a Breil watch with her birthday money. Is it cheaper to buy this in NY or here in the UK? On line here, the one she would like is about £150.00. Also where would you advise to buy?
