The charge that is made (by Halifax) for credit card use abroad is less than you will be charged in a loaded exchange rate by virtually every outfit for buying $$ cash here - and the card is a lot safer/

Just come back from New York. Went to Woodbury Common Premium Outlet which is a one hour bus ride from NYC. Well worth a visit with some excellent shops and excellent prices. Search google for it and join FOC as a VIP guest. Print out the coupons and take with you. They give you some very good discounts. When purchasing tickets you can get a VIP booklet at the Outlet by producing the ticket given to you with the bus ticket. You could end up with a VIP booklet each plus the vouchers you have printed out. Don't purchase tickets online!!! Buy them on the day for $39 each.

Quite a few of the vouchers are for one item only hence I said above to print out the coupons and also get the VIP booklets each. Want anymore info pm me. HTH

If only you'd have done a SEARCH on this forum you'd have found this is VERY old news (back to 2005 at least).

But thanks for the 'news' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

also, you've really got to weigh up the cost of getting there... $39 a person is quite expensive, and if you only buy a couple of things, you might have been better off with places like century 21 in manhattan.. i've picked up some bargains there in my trips to NYC, and really have no need to spend so much money, just to see if there is a bargain!
  • it's a great place to go if you have a car and are stopping that side of new york / new jersey...it's also at the major intersection of the NY state thruway and route 17 which are 2 major roads if you are travelling north out of NY / NJ upstate or to new england. it's been hit or miss for me over the years ....a CK outlet there will have the same prices as any other CK outlet in my experience ...the difference being that if you visit in other states you may not have sales tax to add

If the site hadn't been so slow then I would have done a search  . I didn't think your sarcasim was completely necessary! :rotfl: :rotfl:  !!

Century 21 - it was like a jumble sale in there and we didn't like it. Depends on what you want to buy aswell. Woodbury was by far the best place for us to shop and even though the cost of getting there was $39 it was a much nicer and better selection of shops for us.

Im of to the states next month, will be visiting family in Philadelphia (only for a few days thank god!) but planning to spend a week in New York:T
Im planning on picking up some bargains:beer:

    I want to know...

    1. What are the best buys from the states?(I know the obvious ones jeans, ipods, etc what else?)

    2. What are the best online stores or bargain sites that I can order from to have goods delivered to a US address.

    3. What are the best sites (similar forums) for bargain spotting?

Thanks in advance for all your advice and suggestions...

what i might call a bargain might not be something you call a bargain, so thats a very difficult question to answer.

Everything, and i mean everything, from your morning coffee, subway travel, bottle of water to drink, posh restaurant meal, clothes, electronics, housewares.. everything, is cheaper than the UK.

but remember you're only allowed to bring back £145 worth of goods / gifts with the rules that customs have in place!

and IMO you are on the site for bargain spotting...
  • Where's cheapest to buy cosmetics/fragrances?
Duty free at the Airport (Heathrow) or New York high Street???
