we are going to NY in sept, are flexible about the dates and have trawled around getting around 360-380 accross all airlines. if we leave booking a few months are prices likely to dip at any point, or is earlier always better?0

welcome to MSE esp new york
where are you travelling from ????
360/380 isnt bad but you could poss get it £40 ish cheaper by looking around sites inc a saturday in your trip and keep a eye on new year sales up until around early march.
(but for £40 i would check flight times and direct flights and get the best )worth more than £40 imo
hope that helps
and what time to you call that post of yours some people need beauty sleep you know:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
Hi,
We are looking to return to NYC end of nov 2010.
Do you think there will be a chance of grabbing a flight under £200? When do BA or Virgin have sales for travelling at around this time?
I remember getting flights for £146 from BA in 2005 :rolleyes20 -
ive heard from a mate of a mates grans dogs that flights to USA will be very cheap from early 2010 not sure how cheap but poss direct for around £230 but dont hold your breath . Its to encourage people back into usa spending and holidaying (im hoping more for the $2+ = £1) we will get more value then:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Not sure I agree with this for the following reasons.
i) Airlines have cut capacity, to try and rebuild yields that have fallen since the start of the recession. Airlines are still losing money, so this practice has to continue.
ii) Oil is $75 to $80 a barrel and I don't see it falling any lower, so no change in fuel surcharges.
I expect sale prices to be at a lead in £300 for BA/VS, with the fares quoted above remaining par for the course.
Sorry to be a doom monger.0 -

The airline taxes alone are now £200+ on an economy ticket between LHR-NYC so really don't see them ever being that low0 -
Hello everyone.
I am sure this message is not that different to a lot other people's, but I would appreciate any advice you can give.
I am looking to fly from London (LHW or LGW) to JFK next August, and return in September. Ideally I would like to incorporate the August bank holiday in the trip, and fly out and return on Fridays (so fly out 27/08, return 10/09).
Currently ebookers.com are quoting £387, which is not bad. My two questions are:
1. As it is the bank holiday weekend and I have specific dates in mind, should I just book and seal the flight times I want? Or are prices likely to come down by £50-£80?
2. Do I lose any rights with British Airways by booking via an agent (eg. ebookers)?
Thank you for any help you can give.0 -

My personal advice would be to hold out and KEEP checking prices.
I'd given up looking for cheap flights until next year but casually searched on kayak .co.uk and spotted a cheap flight. Did the same search on the AA homepage and voila!
I booked direct with American Airlines 2 weeks ago and got £289 return.
That was for non-stop flights leaving at the end of Aug and coming back early Sept.0 -
Hi!
Can anyone recommend a good site for last-minute NYC flights? I'm looking at going out on about the 27th and returning on about 9/10 Jan (will be spending 3-7 Jan in North Carolina).
We'd want to fly from Manchester but if necessary would get a shuttle down to LHR.
I'd be happy to book on a non-UK site if the price was right (I seem to recall a fair few MSE'ers doing this a while back).
Many thanks in advance,
S.0
