supershuttles are not super.. they are slow, and it is sods law, you'll be the last drop off... however you can book a whole van to yourself.. you'd probably need it
telavivlimo.com they do a minibus for up to 10 people, with up to 10 pieces of luggage, which is $135.00..
hm... 3 taxi's at $45 each is the same! though, if you get minivans, you probably can get away with 2 taxis, 5 in one, 4 in the other... that is only $90 then...
as for teh airtrain, http://panynj.gov/airtrain/ doesn't give any info on whether they charge for that age... hmm.. maybe try mta.info for the general guides on NYC Public Transport..
so lets work this out.. even if they charge for everyone, you'll be paying $63, and then you'll be hauling luggage throughout the subway, the kids can't carry theirs, it is stressful, etc etc etc... probably not the ideal start to a great holiday?
Just my opinion..
so.. 2 x minivan taxi's = $10 per person
1 x minibus prebooked = $15 per person
SuperShuttle = $19 per person
SuperShuttle = $115 for a whole van to yourself ($12.77 per person)
AirTrain & Subway = $7 per person
maybe i should add this onto my guide!0 -
Thanks Mark.
We have only been once before but I'm sure we got in a taxi 1 night and it was a bit like a london black cab style (but in yellow) which would fit 5 in.. was not sure if they would be included in the flat rate price or not. 2 taxi's would be perfect. Think we should go with that.
I'll have a dig to see if I can find out if the children are free or not on the subway. If not for the journey then for travelling around. (Don't want to get tickets if they do not need them!)
Thanks again.

Off to NY on 30 May for 3 days. Staying at Washington Square Hotel in Greenwich Village.
For spending money, how much dollars and how much in travellers cheques do you suggest, as in percentage? I know I need a lot of dollars on me for tipping, but how much does it cost to change up travellers cheques there. Last time I went was 8 years ago, and I can't remember what I did.
sorry to be brief but limited to time at present ..if after reading the guides on spending abroad etc (nationwide credit card and flex account is the way to go ) you still intend to take travellers cheques ...you should take $100 ones and spend them on smaller items in big name stores eg buy a $5 top using your $100 cheque in Gap and they give you back $95 beer money.

I remember having to tip the bloke that took our bags in the hotel, if one of them got us a cab...that sort of thing....if I even accidentally smiled at one of them......
You and your dubloons.
c'mon.. this is moneysavingexpert.... you walk out of your hotel.... take a right or a left... walk to the end of the block, hail your own cab....
BOOM.. $1 saved...0 -

I will do that this time.It was my first time and we stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel, the staff there wouldn't leave us alone and no wonder, me and my sis had 'first timers' written all over us.

Hi, I was in NYC last month. Was supposed to fly into Newark and had booked my bus tickets online. After missing a connection (blame KLM!) I ended up flying into JFK, so my bus ticket was useless. Used it to get to Newark for my flight home but to cut a long story short I have 2 tickets for the Newark Express that are still valid for a trip from Newark to Manhattan. They are valid until the 16th June so if anyone can make use of them they are yours. First person to PM me with their address can have them. No point them going to waste and unfortunately I won't be back bofore then!0
