McFluff.... one hint that I love to give people is that to never check the prices of flights once you have booked them.....

I can second this. Just booked flights for 3 Gla-Heathrow-Newark for June and got a good price from Cheaptickets. ($1790) Direct flights were twice the price. Then I decided to have another look on Continental and wish I hadnt. Direct flights and slightly cheaper and leaving two days before mine. I so wish I hadnt bothered.

I am going to NY in November and trying to book up The View restaurant via OpenTable but it keeps saying its too far in advance to book now.

I went there about 10 years ago and it was superb....I want to take my good lady as we will be 'celebrating' 25 years hard labour this year.

Does anyone know how far you can book ahead..I have trawled through the sites but couldn't find it anywhere.

Looks like it's a maximum of 30 days or less if the restaurant has different rules.
How can I find the next available table?

    Answer
If you search for a reservation at an individual restaurant using the "Find Reservations By Restaurant" tab or the "See Restaurant List" tab, and the result displays "No tables are available," click the "Find Next Available Table" button to reach a special search page.
    1. Specify the days of the week, times, and time ranges for which you'd like to search for the next available table at a particular restaurant. Do this by selecting from the dropdown menus provided on the "Find the Next OpenTable Table..." page.
    2. Click "Submit" and OpenTable will instantly search up to 30 days in the future from the current date. The search results page will display up to three matching reservation times on the next available date.
*If these results are not satisfactory, continue your search by clicking the "See More Tables" button again until the 30-day limit is reached, or until the individual restaurant's limit is reached. (For example, some restaurants only take reservations one or two weeks in advance.)

Thank you Blindman...I must of missed that as looked there doh!

I think I may call the restaurant as 30 days ahead doesn't seem much and I know it gets booked quickly.

    Cheers again.

For anyone travelling to Newark and wanting a cheap way to get into Manhattan they could take the Newark Airport Express. It's cheap (around $22 return or $13 one way) and convenient. The bus leaves from just outside the terminal (either every 15 or 30 mins depending on the time of day) and stops in Manhattan at Port Authority, Penn Station and Grand Central. Another one goes to and from Chinatown and Chambers Street but it only runs every 2 hours. As I frequently travel alone, I find the taxis and limos a bit expensive for one (although I have used them) and this is a great way to get into Manhattan. My cases are loaded under the coach by the driver and retrieved for me at the other end. I usually then take a cab straight to my daughter's office but this rarely costs me more than $4.
