i've never used priceline at all for hotels in NYC.. i'm quite specific on where i want to stay, and don't like some of the hotels in the area..

if you're staying 5 nights, and you are getting a hotel under £100 a night, and like the hotel / the reviews on priceline, then you really should just book it...

april is a really nice month in NYC, and people might make decisions to go for a short break, and then the hotels are full.. then you could be paying a lot more than £420 for the 5 nights...

personally, i'm not a fan on the Penn hotel, its huge, impersonal, and at a really busy junction in NYC.. but, i've never stayed there, so shouldn't really comment..

    M

p.s i'm not a pro, i'm just someone who likes going to NYC for my holidays!
  • Hi Markymoo

thanks for the reply, would you pay £420 at the penn or go further out of the city (long island, queens) and pay £320 so saving £100??? how much and how long will it take everyday to get into manhatten everyday and is it really worth the hassle to save £100

    thanks again !!!!!!!
  • Hi Markymoo, and other NY Experts!

Do you think its worth buying a citypass for NY here before I go... Its £48/per adult on Expedia for a 2 day pass and gives entry to:

    Museum of Modern Art
    Empire State Building Observation Deck
    American Museum of Natural History
    Madame Tussauds New York
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Immigration Museum
    United Nations Tour
    Bronx Zoo
    Solomon R Guggenheim Museum

Or are the prices 'on the door' similar?

Also - has anyone seen a show in NY? and is it worth booking tickets in advance ?

    Thanks once again...

to save £100, it ain't worth it.. especially if you're shopping.... you'll not want to travel back to wherever you're staying if you're out of manhattan, so you'll be lugging bags around..

if you're happy with the hotel, i'd go for it.. but, make sure you request a renovated / refurbished room, i hear they are a lot nicer...
  • Hi Markymoo

the Penn has been booked and the fingers and toes are well and truly crossed for a decent room to lay our head.
We have got a fab deal, we are flying from man-jfk with delta staying at the penn for 5 nights at a cost of £368.50pp

    No to all three options.

Try looking in the NYC HOTELS thread

    Some good advice there.

honey pie; Can't say if the pre booked ticket is cheaper, but it seems a lot for your money, especially if you would actually go to all those venues. We went to the Met last Easter, what you can afford is what they say but 'suggested' $20 per person, so based on that to get to MOMA and all the others is worth considering. If you like the theatre or shows, then you should really. We saw a Chorus Line which was simply amazing, the talent of these young people, and also Grays Garden, which is now being made into a movie, that was really good too. I don't think it's necessary to book befofe you go, we got tickets at the TKTS booth at Southstreet Seaport, very civilised, and you can book for the following day's matinee, also at Times Square, not so civilised- quite manic. If you are not too bothered take pot luck when you get there.

    Shame on you :D

Some good bargains to be had if Priceline or Hotwire suite your plans.

Museum of Modern Art $20 (or $30 with top of the rock)
Empire State Building Observation Deck $19
American Museum of Natural History $15
    Madame Tussauds New York $29
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Immigration Museum ($?)
    United Nations Tour $13.50
    Bronx Zoo $14
    Solomon R Guggenheim Museum $18

How many of these are you going to visit in 2 days?
i've added in prices of standard entry, so you can work out if it is worth it

also, if you have 2 days, and thinking that most things are open from 9 - 5, you have 16 hours to get round these to get your money's worth.. thats only 2 hours at each place..

if you think you're going to visit some of them, then it may be worth it..
