Cheers Markymoo...what do you think the helicopter rides? Are they worth it? We're not sure whether to pre book one or wait until we are there?

Off to New york in the morning...woo whooo!!

Im with markymoo I wouldnt bother going up empire state id rather go up top of the rock, after all if you go up empire state guess what you wont be able to take a pic of when u try and get a pic of the manhattan skyline?

also you will get a far better view of central park from top of the rock.

    all the best

honestly? expensive and short... which is why i've never bothered...
i'm currently in the dilema of what flight to take when going out there..
cheapest i can find is £240, via Amsterdam though, so it makes the flying times very long,

for £10 more, i can do my usual route through Philadelphia, but don't get into manhattan til 5pm,

and for £265, i can go direct, with Continental, but i don't get at seat entertainment, its an overhead tv, and very few of the seats have at seat laptop power.. :o

    enough of my babblings

How was the journey to Woodbury Common, did you go midweek, or weekend? also, was it awful to get back on the bus, I have been tipped off about waits for hours to get back. Oh, also was it uber busy when you were there?

    Hi Lady S

We just got back from New York, we spent a week there for the New Year. We had an awesome time and many thanks to Markymoo and everyone else on the forum for all their help and advice! We got the bus to Woodbury Common last Sunday and it got us there in just over an hour and when we wanted to leave there was no problem with any queues for the bus. In fact, just as we boarded our bus another one arrived behind us. The shops were quite quiet in the morning but got busier as the day wore on, but not too busy that it put us off shopping! We had been before 6 years ago on Black Friday  and that was awful! Have a great trip! The weather was fine for us the first few days and then got really cold and we had to wrap scarfs around our faces and wear our hats etc...but it was great fun.

I am going on 14th Feb for 4 nights, have taken on board all advice on here. I've never been before so very excited. Does anyone know if BA are still proposing a strike around then? If so I will be very peed off, have worked nights and weekends for overtime to pay for this trip.
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time

P.S - got my flights direct for £256.00
cheapest i can find is £230, but going to AMS then to JFK, its just makes it 3 hours longer in total flying time....

Woodbury Common trip was fine going- 1hr- got the bus (@9.45 on Boxing Day) at the Grayline Depot desk at Port Authority Bus Stop.
    BUT
came back for pick up for 3.30 (could have stayed longer- but rest of family couldnt!). BIG queue. Some thot they could pay on the bus+ queued only to be put off- tickets available at Tower in Centre. Bus journey back took 2hrs- into Manhattan traffic. All our bags just packed in round us. I was tired -so didnt mind really.
Def got much busier later on in day.
    (cost: $39 return)

Lady S, I don't think I would worry too much, I think you are going in April? We went last April ( and are going again this Easter holiday), our trip there and back was really fine and althopugh busy everyone got on the bus, going it was half empty because we went at lunch time so when we came back late afternoon Woodbury was quite quiet so great to get around and of course the bus had plent of space for us late goers. I know some visitors criticise people like me who actually like Woodbury, but as I said before there are so many great outlets in one place, Ralph Lauren home shop is one of my favourites, and remember in April it in not a sale period in the NY shops although we did get some good deals in Gap and other shops in NY. All I can say is give it a go and if you don't like it don't go back!
