That'll teach me not to read posts properly, I apologise, there are certain recognisable features on electrical items which you would have bought in the uk which any customs officer worth his salt would recognise.

Therefore its really not going to be a problem.

On the last trip we made a trip to the BAPE shop as one of the kids wanted a BAPE t shirt bringing back, if it had'nt been their birthday it wouldnt have happened. $75 for a t shirt with a word on the front I almost passed out, anyway the store is small, ive never been to the london store so cant compare, however its prob 10 foot wide and 30 foot deep and on 2 floors, upstairs just seems to be trainers, about 20 pairs which are nasty as hell, but again maybe I dont "get" the whole bape thing.

Just Booked NYNY for the first time, flying out next week!

it was a pretty spontanious booking so we have done no planning whatsoever as yet, reckon we'll just do that on the plane!?

Staying at Washington Jefferson, 51st Street.

Does anybody know any cheeky websites for broadway tickets cheaper than your average bear? no too bothered which show?

Also, im wondering what is the best method on gettiong to Manhattan from JFK, a quick google tells me there is a shuttle bus for about $15 - sounds good?

Also, how cold will it be nexy week, i dont want to end up freezing like diseased rhinoceros pizzle!
  • Hi Mr Raoul. I'm off there on tuesday and have been checking weather.com. Heres the link: http://www.weather.com/weather/monthly/USNY0996?month=1

The best/cheapest way is to pop on to:

Thing is because you are paying in dollars you wont be getting such a bargain you would have got a few months ago, also you need to realise that on average broadway tickets are more expensive than the comparative shows in the UK.

Shuttle bus is one of the cheapest ways on to manhattan from JFK, well apart from using the subway, however you will be sharing the bus with a few people and possibly you could be on it for an hour or two as your hotel may be the last one they stop at, easiest way is by cab which you jump in outside the terminal and its a fixed price to anywhere in manhattan, remember your cross street though as ny cabbies are unlike ours and seldom know where they are actually going, I would also suggest having where you are going written down as they may struggle with your accent, as the majority of new york cabbies do not have english as their 1st language.

Regarding the weather, I dont wana, sound rude but im sure you will be able to work that one out for yourself, maybe google will help?

Well I can now say I'm flying to New York tomorrow with my SIL and I am just a little bit excited!!

Have bought an Explorer Pass for $88, which gives us 5 attractions to visit. One will be a visit to Woodbury Common, usually $39, and one will be a City Bus Tour, which I think is around $37, (can upgrade to a 48 hour all round tour for additional $12). So thats $76 value in just two things. So think this is good value. We are staying for a week, so should get good use from it.

Have also booked to see Shrek The Musical, using an online discount code, for the first preview night, which is our last night. Sounds like good fun!

We had booked the Radio City Spectacular for that night, but they have cancelled the particular show we had booked.

Have also booked tickets to see Almost Queen, a Queen tribute band at BB Kings. Free tickets using a code at Ticketmaster (although had to pay $12 in charges, but guess I can't complain too much about that).

Have spent hours reading this thread and taking note of various helpful posts, so many thanks, especially to the regulars, and to MarkyMoo for his guides etc.

    Hi All

I am off to New York with the other half the week before Christmas and was wondering if anyone had used the Big Apple Greeters service before. Any reccomendations or reviews?

Also, any other Christmass'y NY suggestions (apart from the obvious shopping that is going to be done! woohoo!) would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks Dudes and dudettes! :o)

The Big Apple Greeters are a fantastic group of people. My friend and I used them on our first trip to NYC a few years ago now. We had a lovely lady by the name of Veronica meet us outside our hotel where she proceeded to show us how the bus system worked (my friend was scared of the subway although that is easier to use) and she spent a good 6 hours showing us around chinatown and what's left of Little Italy. She also took us round to ground zero and while we were with her she kept stopping and buying us lots of little chinese treats to try. She was really lovely, told us loads about the city and really made us feel welcome.

I'm sure you'll have a great time. You could ice skate at the Rockefeller Centre although the queues are massive and you could be waiting for quite a while. Don't forget the Staten Island ferry is free of charge and is great for taking some good pics of downtown NY and the Statue of Liberty.

Ummm.. what else? Most people like to stop in at FAO Schwartz for a wander although I thought Toys R Us in Times Square was better - it has a ferris wheel inside the store, a dinosaur and ET! Don't be afraid to explore side streets either, you'll find so much going on. Have a great time!!!
