Just Booked NYNY for the first time, flying out next week!

it was a pretty spontanious booking so we have done no planning whatsoever as yet, reckon we'll just do that on the plane!?

Staying at Washington Jefferson, 51st Street.

Does anybody know any cheeky websites for broadway tickets cheaper than your average bear? no too bothered which show?

Also, im wondering what is the best method on gettiong to Manhattan from JFK, a quick google tells me there is a shuttle bus for about $15 - sounds good?

Also, how cold will it be nexy week, i dont want to end up freezing like diseased rhinoceros pizzle!

I would recommend using the AirTrain - a train service that gets you onto the subway link and straight into the heart of Manhattan. As long as you don't mind carrying your luggage and it'll probably take about an hour but according to this site - http://gonyc.about.com/od/gettinghere/gr/airtrainjfk.htm - it's a mere $7 and a good way to introduce you to the city.

It seems a bit of a confusing system at first but read the signs, ask for help and you'll be fine.

Just a quick question. If I buy a Nintendo DS or an apple ipod touch out in New York next month, will they work when I bring them back here? Can I just buy UK chargers for them or will that not work correctly?
    Nice to save.

Have also booked to see Shrek The Musical, using an online discount code, for the first preview night, which is our last night. Sounds like good fun!

  • Hello All.
I just got home from NY and here are my best/worst bits:
BEST: We went on a walking food tour of Greenwich Village and it was FAB. We strolled for a couple of hours with a funny and knowledgeable guide, grazing on wonderful food and learning about the history, architecture and lifestyle of the neighborhood. Can't recommend highly enough: http://www.foodsofny.com/
WORST: There really was no single worst so here are a few things that irritated us ~ prices on things do not include TAX and so when you get to the counter with the exact money in your hand it isn't enough. EVERYBODY expects a TIP, even if service charge has been added. Example: the sign outside a bar read 'cocktails $5' ~ we took a table, ordered and drank out cocktails, and the bill was $18. On questioning it was explained that the $5 price was for sitting at the bar, we had been charged $4 each to have the drinks carried 4 feet to our table and btw the tip is not included.
    Have fun :T it's a great place.

    Evening,

Your tax free allowance is £145 per person if you go over you lose your allowance and vat and duty will be payable on all the goods.

Duty is variable on the goods, for instance there is no duty on digital cameras, then vat at 17.5% would then be added.

My top tip is if you dont take the mickey you should be ok.

As i said if you dont go crazy you should be ok, on countless occasions ive stopped people and they have admitted what they have and they havent tried to decieve me by chucking boxes, removing tags etc etc then as long as they havent really gone silly they tend to walk with a leaflet and a talking too nothing more, however sure as eggs are eggs and pigs are pink any attempt to decieve me leads me to get more interested in everything you have.

    all the best
