  • Has anyone stayed in any of the hostels in NewYork ?? Some friends are going 7th January and am thinking of booking now and going with them but can't afford a nice hotel. If I can find cheapish flights and could stay in an ok hostel that I would only be sleeping in then it would be great. Have been looking at the Jazz hostel chain and they look ok but would love some reccomendations if anyone has any. Thank You

kipping on the floor in certain hotels, will be against fire regulations, and if found out, you'll all get booted out of the hotel with no refunds..

the fines hotels may get if caught are astronomical.. it is a risk, but is it worth ending up hotelless and out of pocket just to save a few quid?

  • My friends suggested just getting a flight and kipping on the floor but I didn't want to risk them getting chucked out of their hotel. If I can pay about £20 a night for a bed in a dorm then just sleep there and store all my stuff at friends hotel that would be great. Has anyone used any of the hostels in NewYork? My other option would be to stay at my friends in outer NY but that would cost me the same or maybe more in train fare every day and couldn't get a late train back home at night plus its an hour travel time in and out of manhattan, did that a few times before but this time would rather be central.

Are these friends all couples or the opposite sex? Because if not, hotels are charged by the room, and may have extra bed spaces in. Or be prepared to put a folding bed in. You'd have to check, of course, but that might be something to consider.

Don't forget US immigration likes to know the address of your first night's accommodation and may check it to ascertain that it is bonafide.

    Hi,
You may find a shop called Best Buy great for computing, gaming etc- when I was there last year I purchased a ps3 and it was the cheapest price I could get. HTH

Not just likes to know, insists on knowing! You fill the forms in on the plane. No idea if they ever check, however.

I am flying to NYC on Friday:D. I plan on taking my credit card as an emergency back up. Can anyone remind me whether they use chip and pin over there as I cannot remember for the life of me and I have forgotten my PIN! If I can sign if I use it then it will not be a problem.
