  • That’s the thing, all the rooms have a Queen bed but they have Metro rooms, New Yorker Rooms and a combination of those with different views all at various pricing levels (When booked directly). With hotelconxions they don’t display any of these options, just “Double”. What I’m trying to establish is what room I’d actually be allocated using a 3rd party like hotelconxions. If it was the most basic type of room it would actually be more expensive booking with hotelconxions which doesn’t make sense.
    Thanks for the recommendation!

Does it say its refurbished at all? There are generally 2 sorts there, ones yet to be refurbished and already refurbished rooms. We booked through expedia with a refurbished room and it was very nicely decorated, not a very big room but adequate.

Have you checked any of the other hotel websites like ebookers or expedia? That may give you more options. I think most rooms are on the 16th floor and above as the lower rooms are actually rented out to students and other new yorkers. Just checked our booking confirmation and ours was a [SIZE=-1]"New Yorker Renovated Queen". I'm guessing the Metro rooms may be the unrenovated ones but not certain.

We didn't pay for extra view or anything, but got a faboulous room overlooking lower new york, Madisson square was right under us looking down, and could see for miles. We were actually on the 33rd floor.

P.S the hotel has free open wifi, a nice addition if you have a wireless capable phone/laptop.

  • Think I'm going to go for 30 30 instead. Have been recommended by a friend, its a tad cheaper and at least I know what I'm getting. Well what my parents will be getting!

    Cheers.

nooooo 30/30 isn't that good at all, and from what i can see.. really really expensive now...

i once booked a double room with them for a week, and was given the smallest shoebox possible, with 2 twin beds in... they wouldn't do anything!! grrrrrr!
  • I've just sent off a booking request

It seems to get mixed reviews on tripadvisor but I've had friends stay in it and loved it.
The main concern seems to be the size of the rooms. 30/30 actually worked out about the same price as the Cosmo and cheaper than the New Yorker? $1600ish for 5 nights seems reasonable?

Can anyone recommed a book for a first timer to NYC please? Was recommended Brits Guide to Florida last year when travelling to Florida this Easter. Is the Brits Guide to New York any good?

Also has anyone seen Mamma Mia on Broadway? What did you think? Thinking of it for my 40th in March if we can get tickets? Where is recommended to buy tickets?

Have so far booked flights from Bristol, bit more expensive than other airports but worth it for convenience. Researching hotels at mo.

    Cheers

All Brits guides are good very good if you plan to do everything and need a timetable or routine to work from. Better stuff online though to read and soak in ./

depends on time of year, cosmo you can normally get for about 220-250 a night, whereas 30/30 seems to be always around the 300 mark...

personally, i wouldn't stay at the 30/30 again... and mixed reviews, sound about right.. first time i stayed, thought it was nice.. second time i stayed, it was awful.... i've never had a bad stay at the cosmo, and i've stayed there 5 times now...
  • Im thinking of booking this for my partner and myself:
    http://www.newyorkhelicopter.com/helicopter_tours.html
But dont know if they are good value or if helicopter tours in NYC are worth it?
Has anyone used these or an alternate company before for a helicopter tour?

    Thanks
    Nice to save.

The Cosmo was certainly an option, but for the same price I think 30/30 will suit my parents due to the location etc. Hopefully their experience ends up being one of the better reviews!

I'm staying here for in April. Hopefully, you'll put up a review of the hotel.:j
We stayed here in August. The room was nice and big and the breakfast is fairly basic but very useful to have. We had a problem with major building work going on right outside our hotel window and whilst people say that won't matter as you are not in your room much, it started as early as 6.30 in the morning which WAS a big problem. My advice would be to check this out and if possible maybe ask for a room at the front of the hotel. Hopefully this work will have finished anyway by the time you go but just thought I would mention it so you have the option to check.

The hotel is in a fantastic location right in the centre of everything and is clean. We found the hotel staff to a fairly surly bunch in the main BUT the doorman (whose name I can't remember but he is a small roundish chap with a moustache) was fantastic and will help you with things like working out the subway system and how to get places. There were good and bad points as is probably the case with most hotels but if you need any more info on the hotel I am happy to oblige.
