We are off to New York on the 26th Dec and are interested in using Hotwire/Betterbidding to find a hotel. I have read the thread on Priceline but dont think that would work as, there will be three of us. I would be really interested to know if any one had any experience of using these sites....and more to the point is it a good idea?£10 a day in September £23.97/£3000

Just had word back about a prize trip that we won .It seems that we are travelling on American Airlines from LHR and staying at the Roosevelt for five nights.
Any tips/advice about the hotel or airline. Is it true that all meals are charged for on American Airlines?
Not quite as good travel arrangements as we had hoped but as afreebie we can't really complain. The promotor had fifteen weeks to book it but I feel that it was all left to the last minute. We are taking our seven yr old daughter so the Paramount may not be the best but I can't see us being in the room very much.0 -
idk where you're looking.. cosmo is $950 including tax for 3 nights (£186 a night) on hotelconxions...
can you tell me where you've found the pod for $585, as on hotel conxions the pod hotel is $1075 inc tax for 3 nights..
M
I was looking on the pod website direct, at the bunk rooms. Not ideal but we're not going to be in there much and at that price it seems well worth it. I looked at a few hotel booking sites to see if i cud get a better deal but non of them do the bunk rooms.

Hi All,
Are there any cheap flight deals around at the moment? I want to book mine tomorrow for 3-10th Jan and the cheapest I can find is £350 with Delta...I can be flexible with dates by a day or two...but obviously I've just missed the BA sale (whoops)...
Any help appreciated!
Edit: Crisis over - got some for 293 with Air France (which I think is Delta) via expedia - cant believe they were the cheapest but there you go!!0 -
I have a question about tipping at the hotel (I'll be staying at the Cosmopolitan)... This is going to show me up as someone who doesn't regularly stay in hotels!
Do I need to leave some money in the room everyday as a tip for the cleaner? If so, how much? If it's not everyday, do you leave some at the end of your stay? Thanks!0 -
The protocol is to leave some money in your room for the cleaner, standard is a dollar or two, everyday, dont leave it till the last day as the person who cleaned your room that day may never have seen your room before.
Tipping is a hot potatoe when it comes to the states, ny in particular, i go with the "if the service was worth it i will tip" ethos not the "i feel obliged to tip" theory.

Did you read the Priceline Guide?
For three of you then Hotwire is the better option.
I have used both Hotwire and Priceline and they can help to grab a bargain, but you cannot rely on that fact.0 -

Personally I always find a tabletop lamp or something and tuck a part of the bill under it, and make sure you dont leave money laying about in the room as they may think you are leaving them a nice healthy tip.

On the subject of tipping. What about the concierge and bag room folk? I'm assuming a couple of $ a bag for the bag room. Concierge - I'm really not sure about so tend to avoid that desk altogether.....0
