It's not coming back to me, and I can't find it on google maps. I'll try asking the boys. It was surrounded by hoardings, and there was a shoe shop in the building. Miles of escalators.

One night we walked over to the Staten Island Ferry afterwards and went for a ride on that, which was great!

DS1 thinks it was the Regal Battery Park, which sounds about right.

Come on then Marky whats your favourite bar in New York and why?!

This is a very very difficult question, as I don't really have a favourite bar. I'll have certain bars I'll go to again and again, but nothing I could class as my Favourite.

Ok.. bear in mind, I like my indie/rock music scene, and this is an influence (at times) where I go drinking in NYC, Leeds, London etc etc. There are some exceptions to the rule though..

    Starting in TriBeCa

1 - Reade Street Pub & Kitchen - Reade Street
    2 - Mudville 9 - Chambers Street
3 - The Patriot - Chambers Street (Very Loud, Very Laddish, DIRT CHEAP, not recommended for single women, families, etc... you'll know why if you don't heed my warning there)

    Greenwich Village

4 - Slane (I think) MacDougal Street - irish bar, good banter, good prices
5 - Red Lion - Bleeker Street - english bar, $20 to get in to watch football matches, but always rammed
6 - Comedy Cellar - MacDougal Street - comedy place, book online earlier to get in free.. don't bother with the food, not really that good quality...

ok... ok.. i'll give you some more later on.. i really need to go to B&Q and get my half price paint pod!

    Hey guys

Im going to NYC for my birthday in November, arrive Newark early morning 8th Nov and depart on an overnight flight from Newark on the 11th.

We are staying in the Pod hotel which I think is quite central  and not too fussed about sightseeing (although I want to see Ground Zero)

Does anyone have any good tips for how to plan our days? I'd love to spend the avo of the 8th and all day the 9th (my b-day) shopping (Bloomingdales, Saks, Tiffany etc etc etc) but I'm finding it hard to understand the layout of the city and where everything is in relation to our Hotel.

    K xx

Print off a Map on to an A3 piece of paper and put a red cross where your hotel is and then mark other things on it.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Register on Google Maps and create yourself a New York map with your hotel and all the other places you want to go to on it. We are going at Xmas and that's what I have done. It will save you loads of time when you are there, you can visit all the places near to each other on the one day. Also use HopStop New York for direction, it does walking, Subway and Taxi.
  • Marky - just checked out the Patriot. Excellent... how much fun does it look! Can't wait til Xmas .... NYC here we come
  • Hi I’m wondering if anyone can help me at all, I’ve been a lurker for a very long time on these boards and have finally plucked up the courage to post!! Please be gentle.
I’m looking to go to New York From 11th Dec 08 to 15th Dec 08 I’ve been undecided for months but if I can get it down to £600ish each accommodation and flights im there. I want to fly from Heathrow to JFK preferably morning flight so I get my day there and later flight coming home, I’m only willing to compromise on non direct if the savings are worth it(I’m not a good flier and the up and down bit are the worst, the least times the better!! J ). I’ve managed to get a few prices, the best being £306 each Continental Airlines (dpt10.30am arv13.35 - dpt18.50arv06.45)(from Kayak) I’ve never flown continental before, any good??
I’m also looking for accommodation help, I’ve been to new York before (Dec 06) Stayed in the Belvedere, fantastic hotel would recommend to anyone but prices are astronomical and I’m not too fussed I’m not going to be there long. My grandmother has been to the Milford Plaza a few times and recommends it there and she’s a very hard women to please cheapest I can get at the moment though is £765 (ebookers) I’m looking for something not necessarily right on times square but easy walking distance, an recommendations, I’m looking at around £600ish for 4 nights.
If anyone can help me it would be fantastic.
