Just came through Newark Int on Tuesday on my first trip to the US. Getting through immigration took around 40 minutes and that was with us and around 2 other flights in the queue. From the airport take the free airtrain (like an english monorail) to Newark Int Railway Station and buy a ticket to NY Penn Station via NJ Transit trains for $15. You'lll be at NY Penn within 25 minutes and from there you cann connect to the subway ($25 for a weeks unlimited use ticket) going anywhere around NY.

Anyone ever stayed at the Wellington Hotel?
We stayed at the Wellington for 4 nights in July. I was a bit dubious as I'd read very mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite which was clean, comfortable and spacious despite having not been up-graded (bathroom dated but clean). My sister stayed in a queen double (but was a king), which had been modernised and was very nice.
    Tips:-
    1) Request to stay as high as possible with a city view - my sister's view was spectacular
    2) Great breakfasts are available in the hotel cafe at reasonable prices
    3) Get the inside info from Frank (?) the concierge - from tickets to shows to cars etc
    4) If you're disappointed with your room ask to be changed - they will and usually upgrade you

Don't worry too much about your hotel room as it's NYC and the only time you'll use it is drop down exhausted at the end of a packed day.

if you are staying at the cosmopolitan, you have 2 bars really close by that i can recommend..

you have mudville 9 which is directly opposite the hotel on chambers street, and if you walk onto west broadway, cross over the road, turn right, one block, you are on reade street.. turn left, and then you have the reade street pub and kitchen..
marky's the expert on bars, but do not discount the possibility that all you'll want to do at the end of the day is go and sit in a dark cinema ... There is one not far from the Cosmo, if I ever remember what it's called I'll post that!

Although I know you're not going to be there in a heatwave. One attraction of the cinema (apart from the films) in summer is that it's airconditioned!

Yes, 2 lifts to the suite block and I think 4 lifts to the room block. ;)

Someone was telling me the other day that last time they flew BA to NY they got a helicopter to Manhattan for £30. They enjoyed it so much they booked it to go back to the airport, and she very much enjoyed telling the taxi driver "Lower East Side Heliport please". I'm guessing this is just a BA thing.

If you could let me know whereabouts that is, it would be really great. I haven't been to the cinema in ages and it would be good to catch something before it comes out here.

I want to know Marky's favourite bar too!
