MSE News: Sainsbury's to axe its mobile service: What it means for you

A good, straightforward experience with leaving Sainsbury's mobile service. Hassle free as expected from a reputable company. No need to use up existing PAYG credit if you want to move immediately.
I called them to request my PAC code. Soon sorted.
Was then transferred to next dept as I wanted a refund of existing credit. Was offered Nectar points or Sainsbury's gift card. Chuckle, had to remind operator that the third option was a cheque for the total credit. This was noted and advised would be sent after PAC code was sent to new providor.
Have joined Three 3-2-1 network. Existing phone no. being transferred and strong signal.0 -
Also no problem, apart from daft security questions like "when did you last top up?" I haven't a clue!!!!
However also blatantly lied to by girl (following management's orders) at refund department, that there were only two options, gift card and Nectar points. When I informed her that there was a third option i.e. a cheque she said "so you want the cheque option then?"
This dishonesty discredits Sainsburys.
Anyway, I am delighted that they are closing as I have discovered Tesco Lite which costs the same as Sainsburys but uses O2 whose coverage here is vastly superior to Vodafone's.
It's an ill wind!!!!!!0 -
Has anyone actually received their refund from SainsMob yet?
Either by points; gift card; or cheque?0 -
I requested my credit to be put on my nectar card on November 2nd, not been done yet, I phoned two days ago and was told it could be 28 days as they weren't expecting so many refunds to be requested0
-
I just waited until my credit was just about used and then switched- maybe they assumed everyone else would do the same.0

Thanks for your replies.
Still waiting here for 3 refunds, the first requested 24th October.
Was hoping they would be added to Nectar Points before the Double-Up.0 -
First of the three added to Nectar Points today. :j0

I just requested mine today. Have more than enough points to use in the current double up (£60+), so not concerned about the wait.
Oh and their phone line was really dodgy. Kept going silent, beeping weirdly etc. It worried me because the person disconnecting the accounts wasn't the one processing the refunds and I had to be passed over. It wasn't my end because I phoned Nationwide BS straight after with no issues.0 -
Been told that they are switching off in January after failing to reach an agreement with Vodafone.
I had got my mother a PAYG phone as she is deaf and only uses it for texting so calls are no good.
Any advice which would be the best PAYG network to switch to for texts only31st December 2004 - Debt was £128,596.72

I moved to Talkmobile from Sainsbury's, as I needed to stay on the Vodafone network for coverage in our area.
This was about a month ago and seems to work ok. Calls and texts are the same price as Sainsbury at 8p and 4p.0
