Is an Ipad Air 2 really worth 3 times as much as a Hudl 2?

Tesco Hudl 2's display is slightly smaller than the iPad Air 2, at 8.3in compared with 9.7in. It makes a pretty big difference – the Hudl 2 is actually closer to the size of the iPad mini, which has a 7.9in display.

Inside the Hudl 2 is an Intel Atom quad-core processor at 1.83GHz, which is paired with 2GB RAM.

The Hudl 2 scored a strong 2165 in Geekbench 3, a more modest 17fps in the T-Rex graphics test, and 786ms in the SunSpider Javascript test which is pretty good.

Not as good as the super-speedy iPad Air 2 though, which managed a very fast 287ms in SunSpider and an incredible 4520 in Geekbench 3. That's thanks to its 64-bit A8X processor and 1GB of RAM.

The iPad Air 2 boasts the additional Touch ID fingerprint sensor feature, which helps keep the tablet secure, and connectivity options that aren't offered by the Hudl 2 include optional 4G LTE.

When it comes to battery life, the iPad Air 2 will last for up to 10 hours, while the Hudl 2 touts a battery life of around 8 hours.

The camera on the rear of the Hudl 2 is 5Mp, and on the front is a 1.2Mp camera for selfies and video calls. There's no flash for taking photos in dark environments, though, and it can take an age to focus.

The iPad Air 2 boasts an 8Mp rear camera and a similar 1.2Mp front-facing camera to the Hudl 2

The Hudl 2 runs Android 4.4 KitKat which is pretty much unchanged from the stock Android that Google created. On the iPad Air 2, you'll get Apple's iOS 8 operating system, soon to be updated to iOS 9.

It's clear that the iPad Air 2 and Hudl 2 are miles apart when it comes to price and design.

However, the iPad Air 2 is a stunning, speedy and powerful piece of kit that will offer a better experience if you're looking to play games or run power hungry apps.

It also offers the fingerprint sensor and we love the iOS 8 operating system, too. So if your budget can comfortably cover the £399 and you can't think on anything you'd rather spend that £300 on then you'll be really pleased with the iPad Air 2 – it's a brilliant tablet.

The Hudl 2 does has a mini HDMI port for connecting to your TV, though.

It also has a Micro SD Card slot, allowing storage to be increased from 16GB to 48GB.

ETA: Why did you suddenly delete the reference to the mini HDMI port

You can also use a 64GB so long as you format it to Fat32

The Hudl is like a Ford Focus being sold for a price of a fiesta, in the hope you'll be a continued customer for Tesco to make up the discount they're offering, like the focus its aimed at everyone and with that offers compatibility with many accessories, but at the price of less reliability.

The iPad is the Ferrari, it's built at a premium and knowing their customers can afford it has an added premium on top for the name, it'll do everything it says on the tin reliably but at the price of limiting who is allowed to accessorise.

I use both android tablets and iPad, you can't compare a budget Hudl to an premium iPad. I was looking for a premium tablet I wanted to get the premium Samsung galaxy Tab S, in the UK they only sold the 16gb version, I wanted the 32gb version, I ended up getting a 64gb iPad Air 2 - on specs it was better value to go with the iPad.

iPad has won me over as a reliable traveling companion, battery constantly gives at least 10hrs of usage and no usage when in standby, the android tablets I have are supposed to give 10hrs usage but only average 6hrs and lose 20% charge across the day in standby, I love android, they're the tablet I use indoors, in front of the tv.

With a Apple device, you can be assured that it will receive software updates for at least 2 years.

The Hudl has a lower resolution.

I mean, it certainly works and it isn't a bad tablet but comparing the iPad and the Hudl is like comparing apples and oranges.

I have both an iPad Air 2 and a Hudl 2
The ipad is only mainly used for internet banking and surfing the web the hudl is used for everything else
The only thing I would like improving on the hudl is the battery life and that would make this an awesome tablet.

If they do, I hope they include 3/4G.

IMO, that's the only thing, that is really missing from it.

Not really needed imo. Most people have a smart phone nowadays, and mobile wifi dongles aren't that expensive (with the iPad it's often cheaper to the two separate).
remind me , where are Ipads made?

You are telling the Hudl isn't made is a similar area.

The iPad just plain works; it does what it says on the tin.

    Mine must be broken then.

It might be cheaper but you don't get the built-in GPS functionality.
