I put a cast iron pan ( I love these, not fancy ones, they are grey when you buy them and turn black with use, they are very cheap) on my hob at low heat, I have a saucepan lid that fits it so when both were heated I put my rolls on to cook, about 10 mins on either side seems to work well...reminds me of the castiron 'pot oven' my mother used oven an open fire small child before rural electrification in Ireland.

I didn't know you could do that. I don't have a cast iron pot, but I keep promising myself one.

Congratulations on cross stitch, I am too impatient to do something like that, or do you get faster as you become more used to it?

It depends on the choice of fabric. There are easy to see and sew large count Aidas and then there are difficult hard to do anything with squares of linen. I hate cross stitching on squares of linen because you have to count across 3 teeny tiny holes instead of just 2 massive ones (in comparison). Some kits and charts come with easy-ometers. I'm doing a "moderate" one at the moment, but I have an "easy" one for when I'm tired or don't have long.

After all the rushing around last week I woke up with a splitting headache - had some tea and saw DH and DDs off to work and then took myself off to bed as I felt really shivery.

Dozed all morning and DD(21) took DD(13) to hairdresser for a restyle - very pleased with the results.

Managed to stir myself to load washing machine twice and to make a huge pot of pea and ham soup on the hob. gammon is now cooled and in fridge for sandwiches etc.

Everyone likes the soup so I am pottering about on here as I feel a bit better.

Hugs to everyone feeling under the weather.

Will need to talk DH into going to Lidl tomorrow as have not done a big shop for ages.

  • Again, thanks for all your kind messages, and I'm also thinking of those of you who are feeling bad.

I've decided to see my GP tomorrow - I really can't face going back on medication (I know it helps such a lot of people but after ten years of trying various things one after the other I'm at my wits' end) but he might be able to refer me back to the counsellor. I might have to give medication another go, just to get a night's sleep.

Mean marie: I do have a flower garden at the lottie, we have tubs full of fucshias, begonias and geraniums as well as honeysuckle, clematis and lilies, we had a really nice patio area that OH made me at our house, it was in the shade for most of the day, it was great to sit out there when it was very hot.............its just not the same at the lottie......

I will eventually pull myself out of this, the apartment suits us very well, its easy to keep clean and we have some nice fellow residents. At least I have managed to hang on to my sewing machine...........so I can still sew.

Time for supper, spag bol, garlic bread, and apple and blackberry crumble..............maybe a glass of red wine.....
September grocery budget........trying for £80, not sure if I will make it though!!!!! I certainly did not last month, lost track of the final bill. Will do better this month honest.

I had a c-section with my 1st and was then enduced with my 2nd and had a straightforward delivery......it's amazing how these things vairy from hospital to hospital isn't it.

I had a c - section with middle dd and was really looking forward to repeating the experience with youngest some seven years later but apparantly the rules had changed and they made me do a natural delivery instead - spoilsports. middle dd was breech (I had been saying for over a month that it was definitely head banging my ribs and not feet but of course they knew better  ) and so I had two contractions followed by an emergency c-section and woke up half an hour later to a pink rosy unsquashed girl-baby. She was nine and a half pounds  so probably just as well.

well my meetings today mostly consisted of some other rep from another office going on about how crap the union is organised in mine but as no one else wants to do it I am still the rep. All the members defended me and loads have said that they will help me out more with distribution etc. as I work reduced hours. I have 100per cent success rate in disciplinaries so I must be doing an ok job. Not the wind down day I was hoping for but i'm off now till tuesday so what the hey! :D

dinner tonight will be fish and chips which will be picked up by exoh along with youngest dd who has been spending the day with big sis and dgs. he has some serious making up to do with her as he didn't see her all weekend and although he has booked next week off to take her on holiday has failed to book anything which means they'll be hanging around here all next week GRRRRRR!

Anyway i'm off to pack my rucsack for Reading festie - have a great evening :)
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

    Hi everyone

Although busy at work again and all things going on with family thought I was on an even keel. Had a bit of a look at you today but every other time logging on I got a 'This page can't be displayed'. I don't know what my work is thinking of!

I can see there are some of you who are having a difficult time - my thoughts with you. Some are celebrating - wonderful! Some are buying school uniform - thank goodness that is well behind me!! Those who are just ticking along - wonderful too.

Just heard from my sister that Mum is back in hospital yet again! She had a really bad turn at Perth Bus Station today when about to go on a day out with her friend. Glad friend was there. She is in Perth Royal, junior doctor pronounced no need for pacemaker yet but she is seeing consultant tonight and being attached to heart monitor overnight. Difficult day for me at work tomorrow but if I am needed will go. If things not too bad will head up there on Friday. My sister seems to think things not too bad.

My DD has suddenly gone from an ebay buyer to the selling bit! She has put a few things on today and is so pleased with herself. Mostly newborn baby stuff which basically hasn't been worn. She reckons if this takes off she can have a wee sideline! She asked if I had stuff I could give her and she would sell and give me the money!!!! A wee Richard Branson in the making! She says she can breastfeed DGS3 while diddling up ebay! Yesterday when I phoned DGS1 answered, I said Hello, it's Granny. He was watching dvd, handed phone over and said 'Mummy, it's your Mummy'!

Meanmarie - hope recipes have arrived safe and sound.

Sent a message to Mrs McCawber on another thread - good to see you back and glad you survived the move!. Saw those books in a garden centre in South Ayrshire last weekend at £2.99!!!!!!!! Appreciate what you did for me.

Love and hugs to you all.
