  • Morning everyone

Our trip to Scotland changed from one overnight to four days so we only got back last night around 10.00pm. Tired today but we had a fabulous time. We had two family gatherings where absolutely everyone was there. Doesn't happen very often these days so it was great to catch up with everyone.

Went to the Livingston Designer Outlet while we were there and managed to get DS's school shoes reduced from £49.99 to £20. :j I had budgeted for about £40 so I will use the extra £20 to buy the other bits and pieces DS and DD need.

DS and I were on t'internet this morning looking at local film and tv production companies. He has to do 2 weeks work experience in Jan/Feb next year. He wants to be a film director so we have been looking to see if there is anything suitable locally. The county council liaison officer has been fabulous and given him a shortlist of companies to approach. She has also said if he doesn't have any luck with them, then he should contact her when she gets back from holiday and she will do her best to help him find somewhere. Don't grudge my council tax quite so much now. ;):D

Off out shortly (in sunshine no less) to change socks I bought for DD as they are too small. Need to go to pick up two books from the library too. Someone on the daily thread mentioned "The millionaire next door". It sounded interesting so I have reserved it and will pick it up today. Also have the latest Andrea Camilleri book reserved so some reading in the sunshine is the order of the day.

Sorry this is such a long post. :o

((((hugs)))) to everyone who needs/wants one. I haven't read last four days threads so have no idea what's happening to anyone. xx

Morning all. Yup, after another break I'm back. I do seem to be getting these ... "depressions" I suppose, where I don't feel like doing much, but at least they're getting shorter. So, sorry for my absence. I'll try and stay longer this time.

My current challenge is cooking for one without an oven. I have a nice, shiny new hob and a microwave, but my nice, shiny new double oven isn't plugged in yet due to it needing a cooker control unit. It's made me bone idle and that, in turn, is making me fat. I also have a nice, shiny new fridge/freezer because the old ones were 2 units that took up too much room but weren't big enough for my HM stuff. (New cooker and fridge are part of home improvement remortgage, which is fixed rate for the next 5 years.)

So ... today I'm at work and I've just ordered a hot lunch from the canteen. Not very moneysaving, but I got up too late to do my sarnies today and I figured if I got them to cook me a hot meal, at a subsidised rate, I could have a sandwich when I get in.

Last night I picked up my cross stitch for the first time in months. I've started to read again. And my current project is to save money via energy conservation at home. I've lowered my hot water boiler stat and my fridge/freezer stat. Things like the microwave and appliances that go onto standy but don't have a proper "off" button (like Sky and the DVD) getting switched off at the wall when not in use, and only having one lamp switched on if I'm watching telly (no lights is bad for my eyes), stuff like that.

I'm afraid I've put all of my financial eggs into one bank basket (apart from the remortgage), but at the moment, this is the best way for me to manage my finances successfully.

    Hello again!

I had a nap earlier and am feeling a little bit better now! The weather is so grotty in Sussex today, yuck!

I've got the hot water on, can't wait for a nice, hot bath! Usually I only have them in the evenings so OH can have the water after (don't worry, he doesn't mind smelling of Lush!), but my back is giving me aggro today and it's the only thing that helps bar a huge horse-sized painkiller, which I have none of!

Once I'm done with that, I'll be doing the usual DW and wiping down the kitchen, ironing and photographing bits for Ebay (some put on today, some tomorrow, some weekend as I don't seem to sell much from half price listing), doing some sorting of the spare room, Ebaying stuff during Neighbours and Doctors (with my soup and bread that's in the BM), more spare room.... you get the picture! We'll prob end up going to the tip again, I'm being pretty ruthless and hope that I can be ruthless with the whole place!

Burgers for dinner tonight, so this afternoon I'll be making some bread rolls. Also want to make some biccies and maybe muffins/cakes, depending on how I feel later.

    Hugs to everyone! xx

  • I've just had a look at everyone's kind messages to me - thank you so much. Waiting for the phone to ring is agony! I've been trying to get household jobs done using my timer and the Flylady mantra 'I can do anything for 15 minutes' - it is helping as I've got a little feeling of achievement. I need to avoid sleeping this afternoon - the insomnia at night is awful and made worse by afternoon naps.

Have a good afternoon, you nice people xxx
  • PS Why does the 'thanks' button sometimes not work?
  • I don't know why - it happens to me, then I click on it again when I come back and it works.

    It's pouring right now.

Having the plumber out to look at the bath as there is a leak somewhere.... sigh.... so now i have to wait ot get the elcetric on the outbuiulding and a chest freezer. tho we still need to get a budget going. Might still be able to..... keep your fingers crossed!

    Good afternoon Chums,
stayed at youngest DD's last night and had a lovely turkey dinner. It's so dark and dreary here in Kent it is more like December than August.Hope it perks up by the week-end .The children are so excited and they have no idea what sort of place we will be staying in,come to that neither have we ,all though the pictures look good on the net.
Sorry to here your so down JuliaP try to keep as busy as possible I know it's hard when there seems to be a big black cloud overhead, but believe me things will get better.
Bells just gone so I must fly ,I'll pop in later
    Cheers JackieO:rotfl: :rotfl:
  • Afternoon....late posting we have been to the lottie this morning, loys of weeding but have picked the first 2 sweetcorn...yummy........more beans, spuds and some rocket. A fellow allotment holder gave me 2lbs of lucious little tomato's.

The meter man has been to read the water meter 3 CM used since it went in, so it will be interesting to see how much it has cost............

Its a funny day, it was very cold first thing but it seems to be clearing and warming up a little.........we have a residents meeting and then I need to hop on the bus and go to Mr T's and the market, think we might call at the library too.

Not feeling brilliant, not sure whats wrong, but have been like this for a few days now, it seems to be taking me a long time to get over moving, it was rathet traumatic and having to let so much of our possessions was hard....I miss sitting in the garden to have out lunch, sitting at the lottie is not the same somehow.

Tomorrow will have to be a clean up day the apartment is looking a bit messy, I do wish that OH was tidier, but I have been battling for the last 17 years, he is not going to change now!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to have another visit to the charity shop, I have some clothes I have not worn for 12 months that need to go to a new home..............I bought some really nice cotton nightshirts £4 each last week, so at last I can chuck out my old nightshirts, have had them for years and they are falling to bits...........

OK need to go and have a wash and change into some decent clothes.....see y'all later.
September grocery budget........trying for £80, not sure if I will make it though!!!!! I certainly did not last month, lost track of the final bill. Will do better this month honest.

    Tesco £57.13
    Petrol £10.00
