The thing is too many people choose birthdays as their numbers. Then moan about how little they won with four numbers.

Tonight, four numbers drawn under 31. Prize of getting 4 tonight -£36.
One draw, all the numbers were over 28. Prize for 4 numbers -£222.

You win more on higher numbers and on lucky dips.

If people add birthday numbers together, they would get better prizes. Two grandsons with birthdays 14th and 31st - 45.

    Stop playing.birthday numbers!!!

That is an impressive point to make! I can't believe that this didn't occur to me previously!

At the end of the day but any 6 number combo has equal chance of scooping a prize, and it is just one big pool. It may therefore be more profitable (even though the lottery is 'usually' a losing proposition) to pick 6 numbers which are only above 31....

    Really good post

    Hi,

why not try the 49's, most bookmakers do them.

Two draws a day, lunchtime, teatime, 651/1 for three numbers.

Whats the payout, on bookie's 49er bets?
breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??

I work in a shop that has a lottery terminal. There is one customer who has one of his 2 lines, all the numbers are under 10. He would win more on the raffle than if all 6 numbers were drawn.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

As National Lottery have the past 180 days of results, you can see a correlation between the total sum of 6 numbers drawn and prize value of 4 and 5 numbers.

Or I had another idea. For those that have birthday numbers, add 30 to the numbers from Sat. If you have 30 and 31, keep them as they are. If you have 1 and 31, then either had the number of the month (Jan is 1, Feb is 2 etc) or your favourite (not a birthday) number. So is your numbers are 2, 6, 10, 15, 21, 25 - they will be 32, 36, 40, 45, 51, 55.

If you do that, the prize for winning 4 numbers probably be £250 more than the under 31s:D

If there was a formula for finding the winning numbers then it would not still be going as there is not a chance anyone can figure out a way here to generate a prize.

It is all about luck and nothing else here, As for the haters who all scream stupid tax and the likes well all I can say to this is get a life and sort yourself out !!!! , Wth does it have to do with you as it is not your money and not your problem either.

Scarletmarble didn't state anything about having any sort of formula for getting the winning numbers. They simply stated that people who pick their numbers based on birthdays are likely to get lower payouts for 4 and 5 matching numbers than those people who pick their numbers totally at random.

    Look at it another way,
People who choose numbers based on birthdays will pick numbers up to 12 for the month and up to 31 for the day, something that will lead to the lower numbers being chosen more often than higher numbers.
If the draw result then has a lot of low numbers in it, the winning tickets of 3, 4 and 5 matching balls will have a lower payout than if there was a spread of numbers from 1 to 49 because the amount of money allocated to these prizes will be spread out to more winners.

Yes, it's all down to blind luck as to whether or not you get a winning ticket but that doesn't mean that you can't slightly increase your chances of more money on one of the lower payouts.

Derren Brown managed to predict the numbers by using the "wisdom of crowds" phenomenon. Therefore if people actually try to win the jackpot it is quite easy to do.

Don't be so silly if these people could really know or find out the numbers then the lotto would be won by a select few every time that manage to devise such a cunning plan, All that would have been is an illusion plain and simple. ( No such thing as magic )

There is no possible way anyone can predict the lotto numbers be it from maths, magic or an illusion as quite simply it is only one thing here and that is pure luck, No ifs buts or maybes about it.

I refuse to believe that Derren Brown would lie to the British People.....
