Look at it this way, the odds of winning anything on the lottery is evens.

You either win it or don't win it.

    What a bizarre post.

The odds of winning are not evens at all.
  • Quit playing OP.

I stopped about the third week after it began 20 odd years ago when I won £24 for having 4 numbers.

    It's a mugs game.

I have enough money I don't need to do this.

The kids just like to get a lottery ticket and we tick the numbers off on a Saturday night.

It's £2 a week and I think the entertainment is enough to justify. Particularly when we win 3 or 4 numbers

Your family think that watching the National Lottery dross on the tv and checking some numbers on a piece of paper is entertaining? You really need to get out more. I would rather throw £2 down the drain - literally.

All these people wittering on about the lottery being a waste of money - do you have insurance?

Household buildings insurance is based on a guaranteed small outlay (your premium) in exchange for a unlikely large outlay (house rebuild). Statistically most people would be better off without insurance and saving the premiums.

A £2 ticket buys people a dream that they will become millionaires without having to work for it (but 2 tickets for the same draw doesn't buy 2 dreams). I doubt that anyone pays their £2 hoping to win £25 so this level of prize is fairly irrelevant to the decision to purchase a ticket.

When they made their previous changes they decreased the chances of people winning a £million and ticket sales fell. As we, in the UK, now seem to have a large percentage of the winning euromillions tickets I suspect that a significant number of people switched to playing that lottery due to the guaranteed UK millionaire with each draw.

This new system is clearly intended to mirror that in an attempt to win back players.

Now the big question is do I keep playing the same numbers from 1-49 or pick new numbers and incorporate 50-59 :)

    .

Household building insurance isn't just for a total house rebuild!

And the odds are much shorter in that one day maybe having to make a claim compared to winning the lotto.

Now, if I were able to take out insurance to specifically protect my house from being struck by a meteorite then I'd agree the odds maybe similar!:D

The difference being that a home owner usually doesn't have a choice as to whether they have buildings insurance as its a requirement imposed upon them by their mortgage lender.

I may do the Health lottery instead, but I can't see me carrying on with the Lotto. I like to choose the numbers, I believe it gives me some control, in trying to reduce the odds.

In the past it has made work bearable, imagining what I would do with the money, what house etc. Moreover in the past - a rollover was worth something, nowadays it's less than the initial amount used to be!

I think Camelot need to be going back to the original winning formula and not down this ridiculous route. No more tickets from me.
