I will still manage to pay my bills because I have no debts. But I will struggle if something goes wrong with the car or need new washing machine etc. I will cancel Sky TV, try to squeeze my shopping bill more by going to LIDL's/ALDI's instead of Tesco and I will stop the occasional eating out. My outgoings including food/petrol are £200/£300 more than my take home pay. I would be knackered if they cancelled Tax Credits all together!

Can you move to cheaper housing, it can reduce your bills a lot.

After watching Question Time last and the media picking up on the woman slamming the Tories for cuts in Tax Credits, I checked how much money I will lose next April. I work 40 hours a week and already earning close to the 2020 national minimum wage of £9 an hour and I will be losing £35 a week (£1,820 a year) OUCH!!! I thought you said make work pay Mr Cameron.
I think that is the whole point. They want work to pay an amount for people to live on, not employers to pay as little as they can get away with and the Government can top up the rest.

Even with the living wage it's never going to happen there will be more zero contract hours.

I'm the same with aldi. Try shopping at a market for fruit Andover and butchers always do deals. My butcher sighs when he sees me as he knows I'll haggle ilforbthe price Hehehe
ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created.
One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:
  • I think i am indifferent about this to be honest. I only get £100 working tax credits but i will be due to cancel that soon so i don't really need them.

Whether they were a help or not i don't know. My first year self employment i earned like 3k and had about 3k in tax credits, but my original business idea wasn't terribly viable and i was just being lazy i think, i would have been better off in employment.

Luckily i got a fair bit of dosh saved up now so don't have to worry about whether welfare will be cut or what hoops i have to jump through to keep getting welfare etc

If i was skint and knew cuts were looming if anything it would make me more keen to have a think about where my life is headed, if you have a hobby business that earns very little you'd be better off in a job. Also, it will inspire those who want to remain self employed to work harder and think less about benefits.

Life is possibly easier for me though, no kids to pay for.
