You need to tell us what you have or we are working blind and will get nowhere, you may even have the wrong equipment if you have ADSL and a ADSL/modem router.

If all the hardware is connected and you have an account.

Enter the account details into the VOIP hardware and it should connect, you should see some more lights come on on the router and get a dial tone.

But there are a lot more settings for VOIP like dial plans and what codex you use.

I get the feeling you are trying to run before you can walk, so take your time and read up on the subject and ask specific questions here.

    ADSL or Cable?

If ADSL does the ADSL router also have a built in modem.

    BT socket
    MODEM
    ROUTER

    BT socket
    MODEM/ROUTER

    CABLE
    ROUTER

    What one is yours?

Let me put it another way, if your new device is a router/VOIP and I think it is.

And you do not have a serperate ADSL modem assuming your on ADSL then it will not work as you will have a built in ADSL/MODEM.

But if you are on cable you will have just a cable router and if so you would just plug the new VOIP into your cable connection at this point you would lose the wireless of the old device, but you may be able to connect through that anyway.

But if it were me I would keep it simple and get it working then try and connect it through the cable router later.
all get free calls between each other and very cheap if not free calls abroad!

If you are on the same provider, but you will need to read up on that. Someone did tell me the other day that if you get a local number at the same area of the people you want to connect to you can do it free in the USA. but I am not sure if or how that works.

Is this the modem you have?
    High-Speed ADSL2+ Ethernet/USB Router for SOHO

If so my guess it will not work.

As you will not have a connection to use for the new router, also the new router will not have a modem so it also will not work.

    EDIT

I had another look at the modem, can you connect the new router to the RJ-45 Port I assume you are using USB to connect to computer.

I still think you may have the wrong equipment.
  • what is the difference between cable and adsl I think it is ADSL I'm with Tiscali and it goes through a Wall Socket Filter, does this help.

Thanks btw really kind of you to help at this late hour
