It's a shame that the majority of signatories are Scottish MPs; we're pretty safe from the parking parasites anyway. Do English MP's not care about parking?

Just received reply to my email to MP sent 1st October:-

As I am sure you will appreciate, parking on private land is essentially a private contractual arrangement between the car park owner and the motorist. As such, the Government cannot usually intervene. However, I have made some enquiries and understand that to ensure motorists are treated fairly when any parking charge is pursued, vehicle keeper information is only automatically disclosed to companies that are members of an Accredited Trade Association (ATA). I am told that the ATA carries out checks on companies before allowing them to join and monitors ongoing compliance with their code of practice, which includes an independent appeals process. If a company fails to comply, it can be suspended or expelled from the ATA, during which time no data will be automatically provided to it by the DVLA.

When I was elected, I decided that I would not sign any Early Day Motions; as the EDM website says, although they are formal motions, very few are actually debated. Moreover, I am not convinced that EDMs provide the best forum for subjects like these to be discussed. I know that the Coalition Government amended the consumer protection regulations to make it simpler and clearer for consumers to bring their own actions to seek compensation when they have been the victims of misleading or aggressive debt collection practices. The new rights apply to all types of civil debt collection, including parking on private land. I understand that the Government recently published a discussion paper about parking on private land. The conduct of private parking companies, including the level of charges demanded, was raised in a significant number of responses. The Government’s proposed course of action will be released shortly. I will certainly keep an eye out for any further information and will send you anything I receive.

I look forward to reading the discussion paper in due course.
  • I got a very similar response from my MP who is an Establishment Tory.

As the SNP members are probably new to the system they probably attach more credence to the EDM's.

Yes, that's right. There's also a bogeyman under your staircase, and a tooth fairy, and an Easter Bunny.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about private car parking charges. Please accept my
apologies for the delay in this response.

October 2014 and apply to all types of civil debt collection – including parking on private land.

With regards to EDMs, I make a general rule of not signing these. They have no legislative effect,
are almost never debated in Parliament, and cost the British taxpayer over £600,000 annually in
printing and publication costs alone. I do not feel that this represents a good use of public money,
especially given the size of the current budget deficit.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.

    Yours sincerely,

    Alok Sharma MP

Whoa! Large chunks of the reply from TD's MP are word-for-word identical to the reply from 1505grandad's MP! So who has really written these weasel words? The Department for Transport? The BPA?

Thus saying that MP's maybe scared to voice their own opinions.
When is Putin taking over from Cameron, must be soon ?
