  • Quick post for me too. Work pretty much dominated my day and night and because of that, it was NSD #4 for me today! I am crossing my fingers that some NSD's could be made this weekend too. Late shift (3-11pm) today (Friday) and night shifts Saturday and Sunday. I am hoping for another 3 in a row. A girl can dream right?

Oh before I go, I just want to share something quite funny that happened in the staff room this afternoon. One of my colleagues asked me what I was having for lunch and I said it's just a sandwich. And then she asked if it is one of my YS 2p purchases and I said "as a matter of fact, yes, my sandwich bun is one in a pack of four that I bought for 2p that I actually didn't pay anything for because I used my APG vouchers and the receipt generated 4p cashback." Those who already knew about my frugal ways asked no further questions and those who didn't know about it, asked further questions. Others nearly choked because of a combination of surprise and confusion. Hahaha. I'm getting quite well known at work - either as a bargain hunter, as a tightwad and as just plain weird and crazy, or all of the above. To be honest, I don't care as long as I can keep my pennies from walking out. Oh well.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Good morning Turtles

TOG- when do you switch to your 9 to 5 role? I think you are doing a fantastic job of switching your less frugal colleagues on to a better life.

WK- Glad the shop stuff is all in hand. It sounds a wonderful opportunity to check your business against the market for very little.

Apple - Yes another C-section. Really not wanted but I am going to take the bigger view that birth is such a tiny portion of life and get over it. I am already getting my strength back. Thank you.

Sorry if I've missed news etc.

Almost 6am so I feel I wouldn't be disturbing the household much to go down and make a hot drink. MIL and FIL in the downstairs lounge on the sofa bed so haven't liked to potter about. Managed a 4 hour sleep last night so feeling a gazillion times more human.

    Have a great Friday all.

It's Friday and I am going to be frugal

Today claimed 5.00 back from crowdology for surveys. :j

Swapped my broadband from talk talk ( useless anyway) to BT. Should get 75 sainsburys vouchers and fingers crossed 160 back through Quidco. It doesn't track at that amount until they confirm it and seeing don't want to switch until my contract expires next month. I will save 5.00 a month on talk talk new prices. :j
Also did Hkud deal with quidco hope to get 10 cashback, ordered stationary for work as link was on my account. Fingers crossed - apparently won't show up for a few days (the extra ten pounds).:j

Trying my hardest. Now just had my British Gas cover renewal gone up about pound a month, grrr. Will have a look and see if worth swopping about.

Planning a SFD today feeling determined. :j

Have done online shop with sainsburys for delivery tonight but count that when it hits my bank act. Got 12 off 60 spend so xmas cake stuff ordered.
Feeling smug - maybe coffee time.:T

Welsh Kitty looking forward to seeing your shop, any part time work I am available hehe. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Bob glad you have had some sleep, get some more whilst you have helpers on board.

TOG glad you are spreading the MS methods. Now I have my phone up and working properly any m/s app's I should know about?

Back to the grindstone.:beer:Have a good weekend folks x

Thanks for all the kind words about the interview guys. I will keep chugging along, we are not starving so that's something.

    Thanks for the quote apple.

Bob - glad to hear you managed to get some sleep.

Welshkitty - how very understanding of your employer. Good luck with the shop.

CCL - hope your husband gets back on top of things quickly. Hugs to you.

Calling - well done on your cashback.

Carviscocker - it sounds like you are doing a good job to me, as long as you stay within your budgets that's the main thing.

I have been for a run this morning but just a short one due to an injured foot, I've no idea what I've done but it hurts. All the beds are stripped, one load out on the line and another in the machine, just need to put clean sheets on now. HM pizza for tea tonight and then I think we might have a games night or something seeing as everyone is in tonight.

DD is going to a sleepover at the church hall tomorrow, it's a charity thing and they get to play beetle with the people from church. I think it is really good for kids to mix with a variety of age groups and DD is comfortable with people through doing things like this. It's £5 to cover food and the charity bit so that is an extra charity donation this month, I also paid £2 sponsorship to someone for the NSPCC.

Hope the sun is shining on you all today. Have a good day.

  • Good morning all! Woke up to the lovely smell of cooked breakfast made by hubby who is also on a late shift.

Bob I haven't got a starting date yet for the 9-5 job, and I can hardly wait for the work-life balance to start. I have an inkling and I have been hearing on the grapevine that my present boss will try to negotiate with my future boss for a) delayed starting date b) partial start ie do some shifts in present department and work day shift in future department. Nothing official yet but both options fill me with dread and I will try my hardest to stick to my guns (not my strongest point, as I am a bit of a push over). I am also hoping that my future boss will also put his feet down. According to HR, I won't need as long as an external candidate to get the checks through as they have just done all the checks in May. Red tapes, who likes them?

Calling, Bob introduced us to some Money-saving/Money-earning apps such as checkout smart, shopitise, clicksnap (linked to Quidco), top cashback. I'd like to hear about other apps too, if there are any.

Tomorrow I and a few M/S DFW friends have been invited to do a presentation on Smart Family Finances. We are no expert nor have we any educational credentials on finances, but it seems like people are interested to hear from people who have been through it all. We know we won't be able to change everybody's perspective about money but if we could help one or a few, it makes it all worthwhile.

Do you remember my colleague who has been trying to wean herself off crisps and save £195-££595 a year? She told me that after I suggested watching Eating Well for Less, she's been slowing trying other less expensive brands and have been making a lot of amazing discoveries and saving a lot of money. Music to my ears.

Calling well done on the cash back and deal swaps

TOG - you're spreading the good word ;)

Went to Lidldiddle today for fruit, milk, eggs mostly. Will make an apple pie with our lovely apples this weekend and maybe try fruit leather.

Started looking into the whole school thing for DS next year and it's a bl**dy nightmare. The school we'd like right next to our house (but out of catchment) is over subscribed. Our catchment area school is bad and is right in the middle of a "scheme" as DH calls it (fine during the day I'd say, just dodgy at night). Also because not many families work there the two schools that are possibilities there don't have after school clubs. Don't think I can reduce my hours that much (nor do I want to). How are people meant to work with school age kids. Don't even get me started on the 3 weeks half days at the start. Sorry for the rant , just a bit overwhelmed, thought this would be a lot easier.

Today is food shop day - yay! Done for under £30...by 22p. Fortunately I was able to carry it all home on foot, as I'd not taken my oyster card! I've since been up to aldee again with the sole purpose of buying for the Harvest Festival at dd's school next week. The Sally Army do a lot in her school, and the food will be used by them over the winter. I wanted to keep away from beans and tomatoes, so I got 2 tins of potatoes, 2 tins of sweetcorn, 1kg rice, 500g pasta, nice jam, 4 tins of sardines and chocolate spread for a tad over £5. :D

Last year we went through the moving up to secondary school thing with DD, it is so difficult to make a decision. We have a lot of choices here and luckily all the primary schools are fantastic, I would apply to the school next door then appeal if he doesn't get in based on location.

TOG - wow, are you going to be on the radio or something. It all sounds exciting and very well deserved.
